Save The Earth

Recommended Posts

Everywhere you turn people are talking about saving the Earth and recycling. They are going about it all wrong. Their efforts are small potatoes. If these people truly want to save the Earth. Then they are going to have to go after the bigger problem. That being the manufacturing plants. They put more polution in the air and the ground than the small things that enviromentist want people to do to like recycling. The government isn't going to enact tough laws on putting a stop to it because big business owned the government and no one is coming to do anything to upset the companies who put money in their pockets.

Do any of you realize what your life will be like if you close plants until you can get green energy? Suddenly food can not be transported to cities efficiently or processed in a timely manner. Your house can't be heated or cooled because most of the electricity in the US is generated by coal or oil. Welcome to the 18th century.

My plan is a bit insane to some, but would work... Kill lots and lots of people. Stop the overcrowding issue. Criminals, politicians, big business, stupid people, people who want big families, and so on... By doing this, we could stop a lot of the demand, thus also being able to shut down many of the bigger polluters without causing hardship.

My solution would actualy be in superconductors, if we could perfect production of superconductors electricity would not be spent it would simply cycle through every circuit and power line, almost forever.

Some such devices exist, however, you do need to extract the energy eventually, otherwise you would violate the fundamental laws of physics. P=VI, not just I.

The Planet Is Fine

We're so self-important. So self-important. Everybody's going to save something now. "Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails." And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. What? Are these fucking people kidding me? Save the planet, we don't even know how to take care of ourselves yet. We haven't learned how to care for one another, we're gonna save the fucking planet?

I'm getting tired of that shit. Tired of that shit. I'm tired of fucking Earth Day, I'm tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is there aren't enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world save for their Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don't give a shit about the planet. They don't care about the planet. Not in the abstract they don't. Not in the abstract they don't. You know what they're interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They're worried that some day in the future, they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn't impress me.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with the planet. Nothing wrong with the planet. The planet is fine. The PEOPLE are fucked. Difference. Difference. The planet is fine. Compared to the people, the planet is doing great. Been here four and a half billion years. Did you ever think about the arithmetic? The planet has been here four and a half billion years. We've been here, what, a hundred thousand? Maybe two hundred thousand? And we've only been engaged in heavy industry for a little over two hundred years. Two hundred years versus four and a half billion. And we have the CONCEIT to think that somehow we're a threat? That somehow we're gonna put in jeopardy this beautiful little blue-green ball that's just a-floatin' around the sun?

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!

We're going away. Pack your shit, folks. We're going away. And we won't leave much of a trace, either. Thank God for that. Maybe a little styrofoam. Maybe. A little styrofoam. The planet'll be here and we'll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet'll shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance.

You wanna know how the planet's doing? Ask those people at Pompeii, who are frozen into position from volcanic ash, how the planet's doing. You wanna know if the planet's all right, ask those people in Mexico City or Armenia or a hundred other places buried under thousands of tons of earthquake rubble, if they feel like a threat to the planet this week. Or how about those people in Kilowaia, Hawaii, who built their homes right next to an active volcano, and then wonder why they have lava in the living room.

The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we're gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, 'cause that's what it does. It's a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed, and if it's true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new pardigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn't share our prejudice towards plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn't know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, "Why are we here?" Plastic...asshole.

So, the plastic is here, our job is done, we can be phased out now. And I think that's begun. Don't you think that's already started? I think, to be fair, the planet sees us as a mild threat. Something to be dealt with. And the planet can defend itself in an organized, collective way, the way a beehive or an ant colony can. A collective defense mechanism. The planet will think of something. What would you do if you were the planet? How would you defend yourself against this troublesome, pesky species? Let's see... Viruses. Viruses might be good. They seem vulnerable to viruses. And, uh...viruses are tricky, always mutating and forming new strains whenever a vaccine is developed. Perhaps, this first virus could be one that compromises the immune system of these creatures. Perhaps a human immunodeficiency virus, making them vulnerable to all sorts of other diseases and infections that might come along. And maybe it could be spread sexually, making them a little reluctant to engage in the act of reproduction.

Well, that's a poetic note. And it's a start. And I can dream, can't I? See I don't worry about the little things: bees, trees, whales, snails. I think we're part of a greater wisdom than we will ever understand. A higher order. Call it what you want. Know what I call it? The Big Electron. The Big Electron...whoooa. Whoooa. Whoooa. It doesn't punish, it doesn't reward, it doesn't judge at all. It just is. And so are we. For a little while."

How about we to focus on saving ourselves from ourselves. This planet is fine. It's been through worse before and until we have the earth changing powers of a 2 mile wide asteroid or a super-volcanic eruption, it probably wont notice us any time soon. I think we forget that we've been coming out of an ice age for the last million years or so and the plant hasn't even returned to half the average temp it was at before said ice age. Besides, there is enough solar and geothermal energy in one year to power us for billions of years. Unfortunately, if the technologies are developed to infinitely power a civilization, the perceived notion of "scarcity of resources" is exposed as a sham. Without scarcity there is no fear. Without fear there is no control. Without control there is no profit.

But it isn't always a sham- they're not making any more dinosaurs so even if we had a few million years to wait for them to biodegrade, the supply of crude oil is finite as are many other things. Used wisely there's enough to go around for a long time thumbsup.gif Used unwisely we won't be around to understand that concept sad.gif

And that's the idea behind making individual changes even if nobody else does. If I make my own electricity I don't need yours and you lose some of your control over me. If I grow my own food and barter for what I cannot grow or make, you can't force me to comply with your marketing ploys like the others have to. If I rely on myself then I know how reliable things will be in my life and can get by without needing to play along with someone else's plans and making them rich instead of profiting for myself cool.gif It wasn't so long ago that most people made do for themselves by themselves with the mutual assistance of their communities. They were far less impacted by what happened elsewhere and managed to get through almost everything pretty well that way. That's a lesson long forgotten, and one the giant corporations and the government doesn't want you to remember or re-learn because it means that they lose their stranglehold on you. I think that's a good thing and a nice side benefit to thinking and living 'green' biggrin.gif

we learned how to make diamonds. it is only a matter of time till we learn how to make oil.

We can already synthesize any common petroleum product. It's just orders of magnitude more expensive than refining it from natural deposits.

There's no need to 'Save The Earth', it's big enough and ugly enough to look after itself. Now humanity on the other hand... It's arrogant to think we'll be around forever. Every group that has ever dominated this planet has had it's time and eventually either been surpassed by another species or faced extinction. We're no different. We're but a tiny blip in a very big pond. Earth will be here for a long time. We probably won't be.

The main difference between us and them is that we're sentient and have the capacity to figure out how to evade the extinction problem. By the projected time of any real significant disaster on earth, we'll have already moved on to other planets, and possibly even other star systems. Theoretically, we may even be able to seek refuge in other dimensions further down the line...

The biggest problem is that people dont want to change. People arn't going to change their wasteful ways until the garbage is piled up so high right out of their windows that it blocks out the sun. Theres needs to be something thats so dirastic that we are all forced to make a change. Not like a tsunami in a foreign country and everyone really coudn't give a damn about. But right here in the US/Uk or anywhere else. But really though , Its not just the people that talk about it that are the real problems. Its the production countries such as China and Taiwan that need to step up to the plate. Sure we send all our business over there, Because its cheap too. And you wanna know why its cheap? Because their regulations for waste in production are almost non-existant. Those countries are the major contributing factor to the earth eventually becoming un-inhabitable. Sure we can do our own part by recycleing our glass and plastic, yeah it helps but doing that isn't going to save the planet. To save our planet we would need the cooperation of millions of people across the globe with power that are getting paid to do nothing.

So inconclusion to my little rant, Its not really us thats the big problem , its the guys that our making our stuff thats the problem. Also , on a side note use cloth diapers, less of an impact on the planet. :)

Polution isn't hearting the earth. You have been watching too many Algore movies. The earth has been warming up but it has been warming up since the ice age. The polar ice cap is said to be melting but I see that as normal.

If you want to conduct a little experiement, put a cube of ice in a glass of water. The smaller the ice mass is, the quicker it melts.

If the earth is warming, we need to build more power plants and drill for more oil and natural gas. Those big air conditioners will need lots of power.

No offense, but scientists have proven (multiple times) that the earth has never been this hot or had this much CO2 in the atmosphere before.  They can tell because in the polar ice caps that still exist, there's air and minerals from billions of years ago that got frozen into the ice and preserved.  I actually went on a tour of one of their facilities once, and they explained how they do it.
