Goint To See A Urologist..

Recommended Posts

Hey DD,

So my parents are pleading with me to see a urologist after having been in diapers for 24/7 around four months now. While my frequency has increased but I still feel I have total control. A lot of the time I feel as if I am peeing myself but I am unsure. I seem to be wetting the bed as my diaper is always more full when I wake up, but its common to still have urine to release when I wake up.

As I don't live with my parents, Its my choice if I go or not but I would at least like to honor their wishes.

My Question is how should I go about talking with a urologist on this issue. How should I talk about what I am experiencing. Should I tell him I wear protection full time? (it might be evident from a rash I have lol) I really am unsure how to talk with a urologist about the topic. Is he going to be able to see that I am clearly "faking it?".

What are your suggestions?

Thanks,

Nappyhappy

There is absolutely no point in making an appointment with any physician, especially a urologist, so you can pretend to have bladder control problems. The fact you have been wearing diapers 24/7 up to going to that office will instantly be evident to the urologist and staff.

Are you absolutely sure you have perfect urinary control? It is possible you did lose some control before you started wearing diapers all the time. The cause of that control problem could be any of many serious conditions, such as diabetes. Nearly all those conditions can be treated if caught early.

Medical ethics mandate the urologist and associated staff keep information about you confidential. Should an insurance company be paying they will need to state some findings, but they cannot discuss your situation with your parents without your permission.

How would you feel if the urologist turns out to be a woman? Up to about 1998 hardly any women trained in urology. Then a few medical schools encouraged women to enter urology residence programs. By now there are quite a few women practicing urology.

I've had a complete workup at a major Boston hospital at the urging of my late husband. He asked me to go because he worried and the only way to set his mind at peace was to go so I did. Somewhere in the back of my mind there were thoughts of there isn't really anything wrong with me, I'm just lazy like my mother said. I answered every question truthfully because another part of me wanted the truth too. As it turned out I have urge incontinence and overactive bladder. My husband felt better because it wasn't anything that would take me away from him and I'm okay with it because I love diapers ;) .

The odds are that you do have some control issues if only from relaxing the muscles for so long. You might try wearing underwear (sorry to be using bad words) for a couple days and see if you really have full control. If you do then you can start thinking on how to make your parents at peace because they are going to worry otherwise. If you don't have full control make the appointment and let them check you out to see how much control you have. Then you can tell your parents the truth about your need to wear but it's not anything they have to worry about. Good luck either way.

Freta

For you to wet / weep overnight, your external sphincter muscle may have lost some muscle tone, and this is easily detectable via a pressure test. There is also no use in trying to decieve a medical professional trained and experienced to deal with your urinary system. They will be able to see the truth.

In actuality, most medical professionals will not care if you chose to wear 24/7 as long as you can give them a reasonable and truthful reason.

Simply, don't lie to your doctor - it will be at your peril.

Are congratulations in order? Have you discussed this with your parents and if so do they feel relief that you're not suffering a serious health crisis? Enquiring minds want to know.

Sorry to disagree with you rickibrat, the nerve group that covers the urinary sphincters are in three groups as they also contain the nerve group that connects with the prostate and testes. This is built with a triple redundancy. If one of the nerve groups gets damaged, the other two are well capable of handling both urinary and sexual function. Even in the spine, and the spinal cord, this group of nerve fibers are the only group that is protected by a column of bone rather than a single / multiple vertebrae.

Also, the reason for my post is to avoid people assuming and treating their medical professional like a fool. If you tell an med expert that you are wearing diapers only for the past week, and he/she does a simple test on you and finds that you have no strength in your sphincter - medically he/she knows, from years of experience, that it takes a minimum of 6 weeks for that muscle to atrophy, therefore you MUST be lying. That is a very silly thing to do to anyone - the average person will tell you to get lost, and a med professional will treat you as you do not know that you are lying = unable to make rational decisions = unable to function safely in society.

Edited by self [14 July] to correct atrocious spelling.

rickibrat2,

why do you always seem to want to argue and disagree with me. Do you think I do not know what I am talking about? If there is something I do not know, I will not comment, OR I will state that I do not know. As you can see from my profile, I am incontinent, and have been in diapers since 1967 - that is 40+ years, and I have dealt with, on a one to one basis, hundreds of medical specialists regarding my own incontinence as well as consulted about others. Do you actually realize my profession, or do you not think that I have one? ... or are you like the stereotypical American - will not accept what he/she sees with their own eyes - want to know my complete life history and private information before you even consider that what I state may have some basis in fact! You really annoy me, that insistent lack of respect and pure ignorance.

I realize there are plenty of American stereotypes--some surely well-founded--but I didn't know that this was one. I thought we were just blissfully ignorant, unworldly, and self-centered.

I'd say a new American stereotype is created as fast as every new American is born :roflmao:

..... but seriously, rickibrat really annoyed me, with his inability to use punctuation or capitals, and his ignorance, and his arrogance. It is said that wisdom comes with age - rickibrat disproves that axiom.

To all the 'normal' or so called 'normal' Americans out there... peace.
