paradox
I regret to inform you but yes they can. I do not know if they will or not, but even with your history deleted there are ways to reconstruct the files. Way back when in my geek squad days we found a whole mess of porn on this preachers laptop gave us all a good laugh. Link to comment

timmyc
I am sure they could really care less what is on your computer, they are paid to fix the problem and they move on to the next one. Yea they might see the names of sites but they see many computers over the course of a week and don't really care what is on yours. He has no reason to out you. Much like the paranoia about buying diapers in stores, the person doing their job isn't going to take the time to stop and analyze everything. Link to comment
willow
http://www.truecrypt.org/ Use it. The last thing you need is someone thinking they've seen something they haven't and making your life more complicated. If you need help, post here and I'll guide you through it. Link to comment

tenderheart
ok first truecrypt won't help you because it's full volume encryption. That means you would have to partition space on your drive to encrypt if you didn't want to encrypt the entire disk for it to be effective in this situation because you must give them the pass to decrypt it for them to work on it. You can make a file container as well that will hold the encrypted info. But this is not going to stop someone from finding the places you've been unless you know where to look and take those folders into the file container. I'm assuming you don't have this information.I'm assuming you haven't done this so it will not help. you can delete cookies, temporary files and if you are using firefox there is settings in about:config you can change so it won't record history or sites you visit. Now, having said that if you wanted to use truecrypt in the future you could reformat your drive (or the chunk you want to encrypt) then reinstall everything. See a full tutorial from their website here: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=tutorial btw, I use truecrypt on my linux systems and I love it. It's just not what you are looking for. Link to comment
baby_G_diaperlover
personal when i fix peoples computers, i consider any personal information much like doctors do, but unfortunately not a lot of people care enough about their job, their clients to have that kind of privacy. Link to comment

tommee
In what way would they reconstruct the files? It's seems a lot of effort for a PC repair guy to go to, just to see what sites you're been nosing around. Surely this represents a huge security flaw, especially if one can't erase details of online transactions, etc. ? I think you'd be all right erasing your browsing history, clearing your cache, and deleting your cookies. Make sure you get rid of anything on your hard drive as well. A lot of people seem to like this program http://www.ccleaner.com/ Link to comment

If you are using truecrypy, make sure you Hard drive is not set on "compress this drive to save space" That is because on Vista Machines, it will not work and your machine will crash. Truecrypt can be used to make a virtual hard drive and a virtual volume. The only thing people will notice is the key file to for eg; "My volume" It's very hard to detect truecrypt file. Also you can try PGP and GNUPGP to encrypt the files and folders. Also I would put them on winzip and put them in a password zip. Link to comment

PhilDL
I second TrueCrypt. I use it for so many hidden secrets. It many be daunting at first but it's real easy to use and it's secure! Without it I wouldn't be able to have all my pictures and videos of myself and other kinksters. You can clean up your browsing history. I would also suggest to use Sandboxie. It's a program for $25 that makes your machine a virtual machine. So run your browser in Sandboxie and then when you "throw" it away all is gone. This program is great for regular security. If something bad gets on your system you trash it and start right over. I could never imaging being at the mercy of a tech guy, I have everything on my computer! Link to comment
AZDiapers
I used to work partially in the PC repaid department for my old job. I would say that it is fairly safe, as they would most likely not find it or care. The only time we ever came across stuff was when that was what was causing the computer problems, a lot of viruses and stuff come with videos and pictures and adult type websites. Though we really didn't care. The only thing we had to actually concern ourselves about was reporting illegal stuff to the police, you can guess what that is, and we only found that once. The guy got let off though because he was proven to be at work when the stuff was downloaded and he found out his 13 year old son ditched school that day. Link to comment
Guest
I know about other peoples computer since i am a computer engineer and get to see quite alot I know where people go buy what shows up when i do a pc clean and be honest I could not give a monkeys about that people get up to online so long as it does not involve minors............. Diaper666
Why would anyone at the computer repair shop care? no but look at it at this way if you download music from Limweire or any other P2P software they will care but i doubt the case is the same with AB/DL pictures i mean were limewire software is legal having it on your computer is not its kinda twisted but they could think of these sites and the like that way. And i would suggest finding a friend you can trust to fix your pc for free or little of charge instead of sending it to the shop this saves a LOT of headache when dealing with sites like these i mean hell if you saw all the bootleg movies and music on my computer porn and otherwise they would probably "out" me for having just Limewire alone on my hard drive Link to comment

For browsing history download google chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome Always browse using an "incognito window" or ctrl-shift-n - there is no cache or web history For documents I like using google docs and put my pictures in picasaweb. Basically everything important is in the "cloud" so that I can go to any computer and access it and I don't have to worry about the computer crashing and me losing valuable family pictures and docs. For music, keep it all on an mp3 player and your computer so that if one of them dies you will be able to still have it. Even having a encrypted flash drive can help, but they can get lost and are not easily synced. SDB Link to comment
diaprbayb
Ok, it boils down to this. I worked on computers for 28 years now. I mostly have only dealt with businesses. I will add this my niece has a boy friend that is going through a computer tech school. Of course he knows more than anybody before him. He brags about how he goes to peoples homes to work on their systems and scans their drives looking for anything, music, pictures. and why not web links. Link to comment

I thought no one was ever going to say this. You really shouldn't pay for people to do simple computer maintenance. If your using a computer you should learn the basics of maintenance. Just like driving a car you should know how to at least check the oil and tire pressure and such. Running a defrag can speed things up a bit and running programs like CCleaner and Spybot S&D can help too. Make sure you keep your antivirus up to date and your windows up to date too. And if your really paranoid there are programs out there that can write over your freespace over and over and over and if you do this for long enough its going to be hard to get any trace back (never say impossible).
