DailyDi Posted August 24 Posted August 24 I have AT&T internet and pay $100 a month, the service is great, but that price hurts. Spectrum is offering gig internet for $60 so I spoke to AT&T and we agreed on $70 a month for FIVE GIG internet with a 2 year price lock. Don't be affraid to ask for discounts if you've been a good customer! 3

I could get cheaper from another provider, but with my current I have 100% uptime guarantee.

It was an introductory offer when they first installed fiber in my area. I made them lock in the price AND run fiber directly into the router in my house.
rusty pins Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Many years ago I worked for AT&T as an on line rep. Even before DSL, then afterwards. It was policy when someone wanted to cancel their service or switch to another company after deregulation to transfer them to a retention department. That department would negotiate prices in order to keep the customer. Not sure it always worked or if the customer would actually get the price that was offered.

If it is the same as Comcast, then yes. This was back when cable tv was still a big thing, but people were staring to jump ship. I called to cancel my cancel my catv but keep internet. My internet alone was $50/mo, but with catv it was $150. It took 2 HOURS before I was eventually transferred to their retention dept, but by then I just wanted to cancel both. Their retention dept got me to stay with internet only for $30/mo. But that didn't last. Years later I had Direct tv satellite, and after way too many storm outages I called to cancel them too. They were going to cut my bill in half and lock in the rate for a year. I still cancelled because there wasn't anything they could do about the outages. So yeah, if anyone wants to lower their internet bill, call to "cancel" it.

I said Cancel until I got to them, and then just straight out told them I'd be glad to stay if they could come close to matching the price I was being offered. Helps to be honest and friendly... be a customer they WANT to keep lol.

DailyDi Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 Ack. No internet for 4 hours! I barely survived! New shiny internet installed now.
Firefly 35 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 You should definitey shop around. There are probably better deals and uptime at smaller ISPs than the big name ones.

The downtime was for instalation of a new fiber line for the higher speed. Other than tht uptime has been excellent with AT&T for me.
