Dear Daily Diapers Letter with Answer

Dear Daily:

I recently read a few letters on the DD site. I was surprised to find out  that you have a medical condition requiring wearing diapers. What type of condition do you have? I have been wearing diapers nearly my entire life and kind of secretly got to a point that I actually started to like wearing them. I just assumed that everyone that went to your site wanted to pretend they were babies.
I have had more medical procedures then I can count in hopes of gaining  bladder control. Most recently I had an extensive bladder retraining done under complete anesthesia. When that didn't work I had a urological pace maker installed called an inter-stim to try improve control.
It is ironic that I have tried so hard to cure my wetting but have come to  like wearing my diapers at the same time. In a way it is better this way because if I didn't enjoy wearing my diapers this would be an unbearable situation.
I don't like any of the baby stuff just plain white pin on diapers and vinyl pants. How may people do you think that have a medical condition causing wetting come to your site as opposed to those who don't?

Rob

Dear Rob:

Thanks for sharing your story, and for asking about mine. I have a "Spastic Neurogenic" bladder, which is basically a severe form of the "overactive bladder" you see commercials about on television. In my case, instead of having to go right away, my bladder just empties when a spasm occurs. All those drugs they advertise help some, but are not a cure, and due to other problems I have the side effects are much too impairing for me to take them.

In truth I could get away with wearing light protection (Depend Guards for Men, or the pull-on pants) if I were to use the restroom frequently to keep my bladder empty, but when it comes down to it, do I want to live my life tethered to a toilet, or just wear a diaper and be free? I think you can guess which I have chosen.

I've had the wetting problems all my life, but they got really bad when I was a teenager. I had to start wearing diapers to school because you can't always get excused to pee every half hour. At this time I was buying the diapers myself (allowance and selling cards/gifts around the neighborhood), and wasn't telling my family about it. (My family was not known for their understanding at that time, and as a younger child I had been punished for my wetting issues.)

Over time I got used to wearing diapers, and kept them hidden as best I could. It wasn't until I was 19 that I confronted my mother about my incontinence. I had come home from work to find that she had found (again) my stash of diapers (cloth at that time, trying to save money) and thrown them all out. I asked her about them, and she asked me why I needed them in the first place.

Since then my mother has been very understanding of my condition.... and even knows and jokes about the fetish side of things. I just explained to her one day that I have to wear diapers anyway, so why not have fun with it. After all, her panties are different colors and styles. Why should I be forced to wear boring white diapers all the time? Now, Neither of us are embarrassed if I need to buy diapers or wipes while we are out together and I don't have to hide them from her. My room is designed with plenty of closed storage so I can keep my diaper stacks out of view to guests, but a tub of baby wipes sits by my bed at all times, usually with a fresh disposable or two next to it for quick changes.

As to the second part of your letter: We have a LOT of medically incontinent people on here. A lot more than you probably think. In fact, the openness of the AB community is what brought me here. When I went online to find incontinence support and advice the medically incontinent people were quite frankly bastards who only wanted to whine about their "disability: and not discuss how to LIVE with it. On the other hand, even as a teen the AB/DL community was more than willing to give me advice on diaper brands, skin care and everything I needed to know. The medical side of things have gotten better online, of course. But I still find this side more fun to hang out with :)
