Dear Daily Diapers Letter with Answer

Dear Daily:

I am a 34 year old male who is still in diapers. I wouldn't know what it's like to use the potty. I have a medical condition that has kept me in diapers all my life. My wife likes to treat me like her baby, which is fun, we nurse and play just like a mama and her baby. If you'd see me you'd think I was a "big" baby. I depend on baba's and my nummy, I do have adult meals but other meals are jars of real baby food. Recently, we talked about putting me on real baby formula, which raised the question will that hurt me. And then we wondered if there was a way to get her to produce milky, other then getting pregnant, so that I may really nurse.  What do you think?

One real baby,
Sunshine

Dear Sunshine,

I don't see why drinking baby formula would hurt you as long as you ate normal food as well (adults need different nutrition than children.) But, to reduce the risk of adverse reactions I would recommend you try either an adult formula (ensure) or children's (Pediasure) which are designed to provide nutrition for older users.

Inducing lactation is a question we get from a lot of "mommies" and their grown-children. There are drugs and hormones that can induce lactation, but I suppose you'd need a darn good reason to get them! However, there are reliable reports that lactation can be induced through manual stimulation of the nipples, as in this example:

How does induced lactation work? Basically, it is important to remember that prolactin and oxytocin, the hormones which govern lactation, are pituitary, not ovarian hormones. Therefore, even if a woman has had a hysterectomy, she may lactate, providing her over-all health is good. (Estrogen, in the form of birth control pills or for replacement therapy, is a lactation suppressant.) Both prolactin, the milk-making hormone, and oxytocin, the milk-releasing hormone, are produced in response to nipple stimulation. While there are now several regimens which use hormone therapy to assist in bringing in milk, many women have induced lactation with only mechanical stimulation. This consists of breast massage, nipple manipulation, and sucking -- either by a baby or a hospital grade electric breast pump. Some adopting mothers rent a breast pump in anticipation of the infant; other mothers simply put the adopted infant to breast.

Hope this helps, and I hope you let us know if it does so that other babies and mommies can benefit from it.
