Dear Daily Diapers Letter with Answer

Dear Daily:

I have noticed that you do answer peoples letters with good reasoning and not nonsense. I appreciate your good taste and honesty. This helps people to not get carried away in a make believe world of diapers and to use good taste.
I too wear my cloth diapers 24 / 7 after a accident where I had my legs amputated below the knees, and one reattached and working ok. (So know I have one sort of good leg and the other is amputated.). I now have diabetes and thus the need for the diapers. ( I have urgency incontinence if not near a bathroom. ) I prefer cloth for comfort and absorbability. My family & wife  and friends know of my need for diapers and all accept it, I will even joke around them about wearing them. I am not ashamed about needing them as many other people in this world along with me need them too. And diapers are one of the major selling Items at the drug stores. Thus thousands of people need them.
Last week I stopped at a Commercial water park to see the prices and they had signs around the park that listed the rules. The last rule on the boards read : Swim diapers must be worn by Diaper dependent children and Adults!  In your opinion do you think that a long white T-shirt worn while cloth diapered and plastic pants would be acceptable to the public, or would a white Adult onesie-like shirt be better. Or another garment? I have tried wearing my plastic pants and diaper under a regular boxer type swim suite but that is more weight and clothing and the plastic pants still allow the outer garment to slide down revealing the plastic pants where they can be viewed if standing next to you in line.
What do feel is the proper attire?
Do you believe that- If people see other adults wearing diapers who are not ashamed to be seen, because we accept our disability and still continue to enjoy the world despite our handicap and what we need, hopefully others will be more understanding of those of us who are not as fortunate?.  Thank you for your help.

 Red

Dear Red,

Thank you for your kind words and your thoughts on adults with disabilities. While I am by all appearances "normal" I too suffer from medical incontinence, and other medical problems which can't be outwardly seen, but affect my day to day life.. so I can appreciate the need to balance proper protection with discretion - without shame or embarrassment.

To answer your question on pools, I have to start by clarifying what the public pool rule means: A "Swim Diaper" is a certain type of garment, made expressly for use in the pool that keeps solid waste (poop) and it's accompanying bacteria from getting into the water. A swim diaper will not keep urine from getting into the water... that's why they use so much chlorine in public pools. There are several styles of swim diapers, and many places to get them online, but I will recommend this company whom I recently received great service from: http://www.adultclothdiaper.com click on "Swim Diaper" to see what I mean. You will notice they offer two styles at that site: A pull-on pant that looks much like any other speedo-style swim trunk; and a pool-pant-diaper that is clearly a diaper if you prefer extra protection (also good for the AB/DL members who want to be seen in diaper products, but also want to be able to easily explain it as a medical garment worn to meet the pool rules.)

As for the clothing options you have now: I would think a cloth diaper and waterproof pants would be fine worn under a pair of swim trunks (Buy a larger than normal pair to allow for the diaper bulge, and use the rope tie to cinch it to fit.) or under a T-shirt.

Although I frequently wear onesie-like shirts to keep my diaper under control when dressed professionally, I think that an adult in a onesie at a public  pool will probably draw more attention than you'd like while trying to relax.
