  I wish I had seen this topic earlier.

  As a college teacher myself, I would have advised you to talk to the instructor.  We are here to help the students, and are willing to work with you, where we can.  I am happy when a student approaches me and lets me know.  If face to face is a little anxiety-inducing to you, then an email is good, though not as personal and it lacks the ability to share the emotion.
