So I have seen this in a couple people's posts; what is XD stand for?

It's just a text-based emote for laughing. If it makes you feel any better, I aldo used to have NFI about it either even though I was using it extensively.

ROFLMAO! XD is, I believe, a hug, as seen from above...the X represents arms, and the D is the body of the person doing the hugging.

I think the funniest thing about quite a few of these is that you could type a descriptive paragraph just as easily as one of the more complicated emoticons... thought that wouldn't be as cute. And then again... I'm an old man...

I tend not to use emoticons. By about 1982, the "smiley" had joined the leisure suit, WIN, polyester, pet rocks and mood rings as "1970's hi-tack"
