In the post Diapers fresh out of the dryer you stated that the 45 and over crowd was the ones who appreciated DREFT and Cloth for what they are and the link to the past,

So i am wondering i am 43 and does that make me a mutant, because i am staunchly Cloth Diaper, i wear and i share with any other "incon's" i meet about converting like i joked in another post i think i have the largest collection of styles and colors of Babykin's onesies in the US, and all my diapers and rubber or plastic pants have com from Babykin"s or Angelfluff when i find something i like i am brand loyal and product loyal the way our folks where or grandparents where , i kinda think micro economy if we support our favorite mom and pop businesses so they can grow it will trickle up, we don't want trickle down left overs from billionaires we want to be feeding them a little bit at a time from our success stories. but anyway how do we explain me being under 45 ?? any ideas ?

I was necessarily speaking "on average" As for explaining you: Does "diaper smart" do it for you? You were born on the cusp when there was a dwindling number of cloth diaper and rubber panty babies. What birth order are you? If you were one of the younger of several, your parents had already chosen the path they would take. There were even some born in the 1970's that were cloth babies. Besides which there were some who were not clothe babies but tried it and liked it. You have not said anything about Dreft an I did bundle that in

I think the point is, as ABDLs we tend to love what we had when we were in diapers the first time around. For me it goes beyond wearing the cloth diapers and includes memories of diaper pails full of wet diapers, seeing diapers hanging on people's clotheslines and knowing which kids still wore them, etc.
Life is short. Wear your DIAPERS!

Yes, but in the case of incon, where diapers are a necessity more than a TARDIS, the parameters might be different

I suspect that the real attraction of cloth diapers for a good number is the rubber panties, which were the iconic babywear since they were very plain to see, whereas a diaper could be any foloder cloth item. There was no mistaking the panties and every little girl had a few pairs in her dollies' layette, and in my area, most had their own to wear for long trips (2 or more hours) if she was under 7 or 8 years old "just in case"

I just realized, The topic has my name for the title.[holds left index finger to the center of her tiara; the Fairy gesture (or is that jesture) for "Gee ain't I swell"]

Umm...headed?...maybe

I take a size 7 tiara but a 10 feels more comfortable

Another issue is how prosperous you feel. Throw-aways have been around since the 1940's but are, by nature wasteful and did not catch on until the late 1960's which was when Baby Bommers started having children. Their parents lived through the Depression and persons who complained about a $5.00 "light bill" were not about to use one-use diapers. and we were not "green": we did not "recycle"; we "used over" and thrift was a habit learned the hard way. If something either broke or wore out, the useful parts were scavenged out and saved. You would not believe the jars of buttons, scress, nuts and bolts, pieces of mjaterial, rags and other things that were lying about in my house and others when I was little and much of what would seem strange to youwas common in the 1950's The Baby Boomers were, as a class, raised in the lap of luxury and became spendthrifts. This was alos encouraged and still is by credit cards and debt is the order of the day. as well as, by increasing the number of participants in the market for any given items including those who cannot really affordit or just buying it on a lark, credit has driven prices up as more demend chases the same number of items since buyers are willing to go in the hole to get them. Anyway the habit of thrift and market savvy just is not there. In the end you pay the price: TAANSTAFLE. in the case of paper diapers, you pay to make landfulls capable of handlling human waste for centuries. "disposible" diapers are not disposed of, they just go into "post-consumer secure storage" which needs to be as secure as medical waste facilities, or, you pay in the realm of medical treatment due to e coli and coloform outbreaks and water supply compromise. with respect to this the person who does treat them as hazardous waste and take precautions to clean them before tossing them is at the mercy of those who do not, which is quite a large number of the baby-having community who are either misinformed or lazy.

At any rate, prosperity is a factor

Birth order i was the youngest of three, and i do not really remember diaper years but as i was older i remember on a shelf in the bathroom was all rubber pants and cloth diapers . and my father was born in 1933 so he lived through the war years and of course was cloth diapered as would my Mother have been, so it would make sense that us kids would have been in cloth in the 60 and early 70's.

Which now makes sense as to why when i became incontinent i was non pulsed by most of the disposables and went for Cloth as soon as i could get them made.

If the laws of averages hold then the average age difference in your family was 2 years with a variability of 3. I would say the first was born in '62 the next in '66 and then you although having a first child at 29 seems a bit late it is most likely that you were not evenly spaced but I am dealing in averages. in my family it was around 2 years apiece between c1940 and early 1948 for the four of us. I am trying to figure out how deeply set in your parents' ways cloth diapers were. It could also have been that your parents just kept them from one child to the next but I don't know how durable 1950's rubber panties were and were they good for 9 or 10 years since plastic and elastics age and wear

The first heavy users of paper diapers were cloth diapered pretty much exclusively. It was mostly laziness or over-fastidiousness enabled by post-war prosperity and that this was the state of affairs for the members of the largest population increas before or since

You where pretty darn close 64, 66, 68, and there was a miscarriage in there between 66 and me in 68 and my Mother was so sick when she had me that even though it was a catholic hospital they took her from Labor and Delivery right to surgery and "fixed" her so she could never become pregnant again because they said neither she nor the fetus would survive.

What argued against 64 being the first is that your father would have been 30 with a first child which is kind of high, I would have believed 59 before 64. 1968, the throw-aways, where were called "paper diapers", being made of the same material as "paper" clothes and Handi-wipes had not caught on just yet

my mother was younger than my father , because when she was murdered in 1982 she was 39 so my father robbed the cradle had mom pregnant when she was 20 because my late brothers birthday was June 13 1964.

Well, at any rate, you know what is good. I actually tried some of the paper diapers about 6 years go (and still have acouple left) and they give m me the heebi-jeebies, they seem so fragile and chintzy and I cettainly do not feel like a girl in them and if you get so much as a speck of bb-powder on the tape. faggeddabouddit: even with rubber panties
