How I make my stent like catheter

playing-doctor-sets-for-kids-4.jpg

I cut off a 10 cm piece of the soft plastic tube used in the stethoscope of a doctor set like the one pictured above. The tube needs to be at least 2-3 mm in diameter on the inside. Then I carefully melt the cutting edges by holding them a few centimeters over a gas flame of my stove. I do this a few times for a couple of seconds (it's important to avoid overheating the plastic, then it will start to burn leaving black and rough spots). By doing so not only the sharp edges around the openings will round up and become soft and smooth, but also the opening will become a little wider in a calyx shape, which helps preventing the cath from sliding in or out the bladder.

Then I hold the tube at the point of about 2/3 of it's length over the gas flame. I carefully let the cath weaken at that point and slowly let it bend on it's own weight until it reaches the right angle (about 60 degrees). Then I let it cool down in a cup of water. The top of the cath will be at the end of the longest side of the curve.

Then it's time to attach the loops on both sides of the cath like depicted in one of my previous replies on this topic. These loops will keep the cath in place. For that I use scoubidou strings like these:

scoubidou-3114b.jpg

To attach these strings at the top of the cath I punch four holes with a heated needle at the top of the cath, two at both sides just below each other (a few mm distance). I make sure I take the sides of the top that will be the left and right side in the bladder when inserted, as the curve will force the cath to fit in only one way in my urethra. It's important to punch the holes very precisely leaving no sharp edges.

Then I take a string of scoubidou and pull it through these holes. First through the lower holes of both sides then backwards through the upper holes of both sides leaving two free ends of the string on one side. Then I tie a tight knot in the string and make sure I leave two loops of about 1-2 cm's wide at both sides of the cath. When done I cut off the remaining loose ends of the strings very close to the knot. If I notice some sharp edges of the scoudidou strings coming out off the node, then I make sure to melt them away by holding the node over a gas flame for a short while.

At the downside of the cath I also punch two holes at the left and two holes at the right side with a hot needle. Now I leave a distance of about 1 cm between the holes. Again I make sure the holes don't have sharp edges. Then I pull a peace of scoubidou through these holes in the same way as I described for the top of the cath. But now I have to keep the loops very small as this part of the cath will remain in the urethra. Therefore I first cut off the free ends of the string at one side of the cath leaving almost no loop at both sides if both ends were to be put together.

Then I pull a nylon line through the scoubidou string. I tie a few very tight knots in the ends of the nylon line and by doing so I firmly pull together the ends of the scoubidou string then forming a circle shaped loop. I cut off the loose ends of the nylon very close to the knot and then I push the node inside one of the ends of the scoubidoustring. Now I gently push and pull the scoubidou loop a little around untill the joint slides inside the tube of the cath.

Now the cath is almost finished and I only need to make sure I can remove the cath when it's inserted. Therefore I attach a nylon line to the cath as follows. I take a long piece of a medium thick nylon string (60 cm) and push the two ends of it into the opening at the top of the cath at both sides of the crossing scoubidou strings. The nylon line will eventually form a loop around the scoubidou string. I proceed to push both ends of the nylon line through the tube untill they come out off the bottom and the loop of the line touches the scoubidou string at the top. Then I tie a few tight knots at the very end of the nylon lines.

To make sure the line is attached safely to the cath I pull it hard while holding the cath in my other hand.

How to insert this catheter

Then it's ready to insert. I clean the cath, my hands and genitals with lots of antibacterial soap and rinse them with lots of hot water. I make sure my bladder is full and pee a little just to make the urethra wet and smooth. Then I fold upwards the loops of scoubidou at the top and start inserting these folded loops into the urethra. Then I gently push the cath inside as far as possible. When the cath is almost inside I take a thick clean knitting needle and stick the point of the needle in the bottom of the cath and slowly proceed insertion keeping my penis in slightly upward position. It's hard to define when the cath enters the bladder because often urine already starts flowing when passing the outer sphincter. So I keep pushing gently untill I feel the cath simply can't go any further inside. Then I pull back the knitting needle and already start peeing without control. I gently pull at the nylon line to make sure the opening of the cath will be as close to the inner sphicter as possible. Only then all the pee will immediately drain from the bladder leaving no residu in the bladder.

And then my friends, it's nappy time!! :D

... and to think that some people were concerned about the material in my MMS.

I take it that you don't reuse this?

Yes I've used it for over two years now. Never had a UTI using this device. I just try to work clean, not sterile.  ;)

Anyone tried it yet?

I can't seem to find scoubidou strings, they've gone a bit out of fashion.
