Listening to music while playing a video game

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I'm playing a video game such as sonic Generations for Xbox 360 or playing a game or two on my Nintendo DS I sometimes like to listen to some music while I'm playing and I was just wondering if anyone else listens to music while playing a video game

It depends on the game. If there's a storyline to the game, I can't listen to music because it'll drown out the speech for me. I can always read the subtitles if they're an option, but not all games have accessible captioning. Also, when I play racing games, I listen to the engine note to know where to shift.

I listen to music all the time when I'm playing Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction or Diablo 3. Same goes with Ninja Gaiden, which has me pulling my hair out at the moment, since I restarted my challenge to myself. I'm playing the xbox version on Very Hard with these restrictions: No health upgrades, No magic usage, No other weapons than the Dragon Sword, and no skipping of major fights along the way. this might just drive me insane.

If the gameplay is more of just filler like grinding or traveling I will listen to music, but other than that I only listen to the in-game music and sounds. I like to really immerse myself into the game world and experience all the sights and sounds. :D

As above, frankly. If I'm grinding or farming a memorised route, or doing something that generally isn't directly bringing me to new content I'll put something on in the background, albeit not always music. Not always the case, mind. I'll stick to the OST if I'm just wandering.

If I'm on multiplayer I might be tempted; usually I'll listen to production music or the Berserk soundtrack when duelling in Dark Souls, for example.

Also if the game itself has music imports baked in, I will dive on that. My time playing MGSV Ground Zeroes is full of old Metal Gear tracks; calling in the chopper to Snake Eater or Sins of the Father never gets old.

My only real experience with listening to something other than the OST, is for some reason I started listening to Kevin Smith podcasts while playing Fallout: New Vegas. It's strange, but it kind of works xD
