I don't even know if i want to deal with this part of the factory anymore

Recommended Posts

Got sent home early because some other guy starts complaining on day one (in my area, which nobody likes, only two production workers and as machine operator from 3 months ago, working in an unconomfortable area, sometimes 15 hour days) always makes fun of people, quite frankly I wish they wouldn't let him work over in my area, nobody wants to hear the complaints and deal with complainers always getting their way, but if I say nothing,

They already said its voluntary to work in this area, I just want to minimize the B.S., too much to deal with for not enough money if I gotta deal with someone's attitude and see them get treated better because they will complain otherwise at $6000 a batch and on track for the factory to make $18 million in sales for the year im not gonna keep getting treated unfairly and keep giving them whatever they want, im not desperate like that.

I mean i know im not "perfect", but comparing me to this guy would be no contest, I get along with everyone, don't get kicked out of areas or walk off the line, Don't call everyone names, ive been working for the company for almost 6 months (3 as a temp, 3 as direct hire, most of it was working hard in this area), I never complained until recently (trying to make things fair for everyone in this area, its far from ideal and we go through a lot of people). In comparison its this guys second or third week I think, burned through several areas, complained he won't go in the uncomfortable room since day one. They know im a known quality, most of the factory won't work in this area, even fewer can stay the requiredhours, and most refuse to go bback after one week, if they don't make things better, They will have a mess on their hands trying to properly replace me (why replace quality with crap?) Like I said I was a bit of an instigator, but nothing bad enough to warrant violence and threats.

If I didn't know better, I'd say this guy is a pain in the tush, but your managers don't want to fire him, that's a lot of hassle, and you should hear them whine about it!

I think, in addition to what Miss Betty says, it's time to ask your boss for a transfer.

When Mr Annoying falls flat on his face, and really starts hurting the company, they will ask you to come back.

If this is manufacturing and production machining, then welcome to the world of Unions! :P trying to get rid of someone in a union is like pulling teeth out of a killer whale while its swimming....God luck with that one.

This is typical behavior of a "entitlement' thinking union worker. he thinks he can be as obnoxious as he wants and get away with it because he (almost) can't be fired. It takes a LOT to get rid of people like this, since they hide in the union and play games etc, so your best bet is to stay the heck away from this fool, get a transfer if you can and let him continue to burn his own bridges. Having worked around this type before, they really are a pain, and do what ever they want to make YOUR life as miserable as possible to boot, just to see what you do. It'sreally sick, and it's this type of union worker that truly gives unions a bad name.

Ask to work a different station, and if they ask why, just tell them the truth, the other guy is an obnoxious putz and has issues and you would rather stay away from him....and work another area and learn all you can about something new :) (make yourself look good;) )

Having worked in a lot of different places, you (unfortunately) see this type of person EVERYWHERE!~ :( and it's sad, since I like to get along with everyone and we are all there for the same reason, help the company do what ever it is they do.

Anyway, ask for a transfer to a different station, and put as much distance between you and numb-nuts as possible. Show them who and what you are and the quality of work YOU do, and have a positive attitude as well, it might wear off and he might get the AX...or not. That also depends on seniority. You might have been there 6 months, but if he's 'older and more experienced' then he gets the nod and your out.

Just the way these stupid things work...or more 'don't work'

Good luck.

I once worked in a non-uniopn factory where a minority person always went around nmaking it clear that they had better not fire her bwecause she'd use the 'race card' <_< That did not make her any friends- she was universally disliked by all- but not wanting to be drawn into a lawsuit the company put up with her for several years until halfway between downsizing and closing they dumped her in a round of lay-offs :P It's hard for a lot of people to understand how companies must operate to handle things well enough to avoid lawsuits they might not win, and that those are generally not insured against which makes the company even more hesitant to 'make waves'. While you shouldn't have 'antagonized' the situation (which I thinbk you've klearned from) the best way to handle these things is to not get involved any more than possible. Plant a smile on your face even if it's fake and keep your own future at the forefront of your thoughts. Soon enough losers get canned- it always happens- and all you have to do is have the patience it takes to wait that out. The harder a struggle is, the sweeter the win becomes when you get it B)

Its not union, just a factory and he's still temporary

Ok, that makes it better then, believe it or not. And BP is correct as I have been through this as well. Working where I work (food place) there were a LOT of ....ummm....errrrmm..."illegal aliens' if South American race who hated me being there as I am Caucasian, and they wanted the store for themselves only...pure racism at it's worst. They made all sorts of nasty comments and called me names to my face and behind my back etc. I just kept doing my job to the best of my ability, and as BP said, there came a day when the company had to do a 'clean out' due to legal purposes )the whole I9 thing and proof of citizenship etc) and many of them 'went away", but not ALL of them :P

The ones remaining were still nasty, but I ignored them and kept working and doing my job better then anyone else.

Again, another change, they moved the store and the few remaining ignorants were dropped, except for 2. One eventually quit, (one of the nastiest) citing 'racism' saying 'we didn't like Hispanics' which is bull. He got picked on because he did sloppy work, smelled bad and had a nasty attitude with both co-workers and customers, for which he got several reprimands from management! Believe me, no one misses him! The one left is kind of walking the fence 'being nice' but I know that she despises most of us, since the majority of the crew is now 'Caucasian". I don't do anything but just my job to the best of my ability and ignore negativity and BS, it doesn't belong there.

So your 'friend' wont be there long if he keeps up the sh*t. All he's doing is pushing boundaries to see what crap he can get away with, and if management was wise, they would find a way to show him the door, as his negative behavior will have a bad impact on otheh workers...it's very infectious and destructive unless stopped.

Just keep clear of him, do your job to the very best of your ability, smile and enjoy what you do (find the joy no matter what) as you have a job where many many others don't and would LOVE to have one.

He has no appreciation for where he is and what he has, then he needs to go..and maybe someone who is unemployed will take his place and have an 'attitude of gratitude' for the opportunity to once again earn a living for themselves, where he evidently doesn't.

Sad.

He's still working there, directly in my area, I still don't like him, but im putting up since im not trying to potentially get fired and im stuck doing it for maybe 2 more weeks (I don't know if ill last that long honestly, already at 40 hours for the week and my body always wants to give up after 13.5 hours, Monday night I couldn't even sleep and im going through 4 energy drinks a day), im getting more and more miserable, but they won't let me stop doing the product until at least the order is done so I have to try to last

Yeah, im not sure how I pulled off 30 hours in 2 days without sleep between them, at like 52 hours this week, this product is too much B.S. and stress for not enough money anymore, considering I don't need the money that badly, each week is less overtime lately, its only 1.5x regular pay, and my regular pay is only 8.75 per hour. Decided to not drink tonight and took my medication, hoping to catch up on sleep really good, also trying wearing a diaper to bed. I think im a lot better from where I was last weekend and trying to deal in better ways. Going to try sleeping now.

I just got some bad news a little earlier, my little brother is basically laid off, this means I will be paying out more in bills, its also unsettling as im still fairly new to the same company (although im direct and he's through a temp agency), temp agency says the company is downsizing, I'm hoping not for long, I know they are trying to expand, but it seems to take forever before they can get machines into a new food/liquid room (apparently they need to have it on paper what their intentions are in regards to what machines they will use and what product they will produce, and then it needs approval, no idea how long it takes)., the supervisors know my little brother does good work in certain areas and they know I do good work pretty much everywhere, not to mention the extra hours ive been giving them, I hate to think I might be permanently trapped doing the one product I really hate, but i guess if that's what happens ill have to make due and I hope him being laid off doesn't last long, and I hate even more to think i may be laid off soon if certain product lines lose contracts (they always move people around to wherever is a higher priority leaving certain areas way low on workers which put their orders way behind), which wouldn't be my fault as im just a production worker, and they only care in regards to maintaining "acceptability" , I hate just doing "acceptable" personally as I know most of the time better is easily maintained and I try to keep motivation to keep working as miserable as I may be sometimes and I try to not raise a fuss, although if I don't it feels like they think im an annoyance not worthy of listening to or giving an honest reply (the one day I got sent home early they implied they were trying to be fair, but it didn't seem like it, and still didn't days afterwards until I complained to the department boss, who had to talk to the low level supervisor before anything seemed to improve)

I work in electrical design. I get that equipment on paper and make sure you're not plugging a 25 amp machine into a 20 amp outlet that someone else "might" use for a vacuum. What about adding too much equipment on an existing system and overloading your entire service? It's actually quite important (if not mundane) work. I'm also human so the building department exists to make sure I don't screw up. My company submits our drawings (which usually takes up to a month to make), then because of their backlog after another month it should be approved (or rejected with comments on how to improve my design based on code requirements that are there to insure basic safety).

I specialize in doing high-quality detailed work which I am very, very good at, but there isn't always a market for that :( While I hate doing low-quality high-production work I have to adapt to it to fill in bewteen the good stuff, so I've learned how to do that well too :P Just go with the flow and give your customer or employer what they want. If problems arise because of that point out that it is their problem- you gave them what they wanted and if they're not happy with that all they need to do is let you know what they want now and you'll give them that instead :) Work may matter a lot, but it's not all of life. Money is just a necessary evil you have to deal with in life so you do what it takes to get enough of it to get by  I do the mundane crap because I have to, and when the nicer stuff comes along I can relish the chance to show my stuff and shine. By staying in the business with the mundane I stay connected, so that when something better comes along I'm right there to handle it. By giving my customer anything they want they know they can get anything they want from me, all they have to do is ask and I'll make it happen B) When I have the chance to exceed their expectations I take it so long as it's not detracting from what they wanted from me- that gets me noticed and chosen when the better stuff comes along. Employment is about more, better, or both and those who succeed best are those who offer that consistently. Put everything else aside at work and focus on succeding at it so you can get what you want- more and better for you ;)
