Diapers on the wash line.

I assume you mean snow? Did you know clothes actually dry Faster on a line after it has snowed and/or is below 32 degrees (Fahrenheit). Of course rain and humidity is another story.

Squares or rectangles of cltoh could be anything. I bet you did not put your rubber panties out there with them. That as we say, would take a big tiara

Sublimation, aka freeze drying, only occurs at pressures below the triple point.

Yes I had my salk pants out too. The plastic ones no. Cause the sun can be hard on them. I also had my chux out too.

Between 45 and 65 years ago, I would routinely see baby panties drying on the line with diapers

I have seen things that had been put on the line, then had the temp drop below freezing while they were still we. When you bring them in, you can stand them up against the wall: Hard as a rock. I would think that this would damage the fibers

No it doesn't damage the fibers, but you didn't leave them outside long enough. My family had to do this quite often when we lived in Michigan. We were poor enough for a few years that when our dryer broke and didn't have enough money for the coin laundry we had to line dry them even in the winter.

This does work, you just have to leave them out there long enough. Due to very low humidity in the air and the uv light we still get, it will slowly turn the water ice into water and evaporate it into the air. This is not sublimination, but a different process tied to getting just enough heat with the lower humidity. When all the ice is gone your clothes are no longer stiff and will fold just like normal (but they are cold).

Here, take a look at this site. I'm not lying.

How long did you leave then out there, a week? Also we lived on the southern New England coast near salt water so thatmay have affected the humidity

Not even a full day and they would usually be dry. You may be right about your humidity problem though. Our clothes sometimes would take a few days depending on when it snowed and how much. I believe it is tied to how much humidity is in the air.

Freeze-dried Diapers? I am sure that there is a joke in there about "Taster's Choice" but I do not even want to go NEAR there!

The triple point refers to equilibrium of the pure substance, and it refers to the pressure of the water itself, not the air it is dissolving into.

Believe me, if I had a choice, I'd dry my diapers on a clothesline, but that's something they don't allow in the apartment complex I live in. It's a shame, as I'd save a good deal in laundry expenses.

Even if they allowed it I would not do it. We are pretty closely packed in here and putting your business in the street is a date with Murphy
