Going without diaper for medical procedures

Recommended Posts

So there's been a few tests and medical procedures that have required me to go with out my diaper . Most the time they still kept me covered up( until sedated at least) and something under me since I would make a mess other wise. But I'd always be very uncomfortable . Has anyone else experienced this?

The worst I recall they used dye to check kidney & bladder function on a ct type scan. Well as my diaper absorbed my pee it apoarently did the dye too. So the tech said they needed to remove my diaper . They put a towel under me . But it took like 45 mins and I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin.

I've tossed around idea of going to a nudist resort and just using my wheel chair with a diaper or pad under me. But because of this experience I wonder if it would bother me to much.

So was curious about others feelings or experiences about going with out a diaper when you medically need/use one and how you handle it.

Jeremy i am incontinent and when i have had surgery or procedures that i needed to not in my diaper i have always been taken in doped out and had my diaper removed sand generally if an indwelling was not needed they diapered me before i woke up.the exception to this was last June i was resuscitated from Cardiac Arrest and went into a coma ,when i emerged from the coma i had a foley (indwelling and after about two days of being "out" of the coma and verbal and such the nurse in my ICU room told me she was going to take it out,and i protested the removal because i new that meant $10 Hospital diapers that where not worthy of being called "absorbent" or diaper but the nurse said it is required by law that the foley be removed as soon as possible for infection control( And let me tell you about the God damn infection i got from that i was on 2weeks of horse pills, you know the pills that look more like suppositories ,yeah and they where the shit you take when you have been exposed to Anthrax {begins with a C but i'm drawing a blank But it was 1000mg X3 a day for 2 week } and she said i know your i"ncon" and i have diapers here but i told her its going to mean changing me and the bed linen multiple times a day and she said She doesn't mind it part of the job and i said i mind its work for you that if i was 80 sure fine but i'm 44 and you should not have to do this for a 44 year old,and she said i sit here and talk to you and watch TV for 12 hours and the biggest thing s i do is wash you adjust the temperature or your blankets or futz with the TV for you because the damn remote doesn't work( my whole stay i had a Critical Care ACLS nurse with me all the time if they had to go pee another nurse had to be there before she got to leave to go pee) its not like i have 5 patients or anything i have just you and you ask for very little, But i had the opposite reaction to getting back into my diapers because i new that meant work for them and i hate people having to work on account of me. And not for anything but you would be surprised at how many chair/diaper people there are here I am one and if you ever have looked at my status posts i'm full power with T.R.E.E and my new chair was shipped from the Manufacturer on the 14TH so it should be at US Customs about now( its an Amy Systems alltrack M3 in a Matte Black paint job. If you don't know the chair type Amy Systems power chair into You Tube and there are three short videos of the chair (they are short but impressive) so if you ever wanna talk chairs Manual or power or Diapers I'm the cripp to write to .

I've had several procedures that required me to not be diapered. Colonoscopy, cytoscope, urodynamics tests, etc. Each time I've just worn my diaper up till the procedure or in to the or. They always take off my diaper and cath me if needed. When it's over I'm diapered again and all is fine.

Had several procedures. Last one was a spinal tap/ lumbar puncture. Kept my diaper on the whole time and it was in full view if the doctor doing the operation and his two nurses. Before that I've had several MRI done, the last one I was in the middle of the procedure when the stuff they made me drink started working through me and I messed myself. I wanted to crawl under the machine I was so embarrassed.

Had a colonoscopy, I was diapered right up to the point where I was taken into the or and I took the diaper off myself and when the procedure was over I put it back on. I was asked why I needed the use of a diaper? and I was also made aware of the alternatives to diaper use. I told the or staff that the use of catheters was no longer an option as I leak around them, and the use of an external catheter sheath I had tried before and found extremely unpleasant.

I have twice-monthly routine check-ups as a part of my company's health insurance and because my weight puts me into a high-risk-for-insurance category. I'm in diapers 24/7 for obesity-related bladder incontinence and while I have to strip down to the diaper and socks for the check-ups, the diaper always stays on and I have never had to remove it completely for the doctor visits.
