I have never tried nor will I ever do drugs. I smoked cigarettes for about 15 years but I have quit those 3 years ago. I don't consume alcohol either. I might have a beer once every few months or so. I am a light weight any way. 2 beers I am ready to sleep. 3 beers and I am ready to puke.

Doing real things means that you must

A learn real skills

B. put in real effort

C. Have your work judged, even by yourself, by real standards

The kicks you get from drugs are solely inside your own head and do not require effort or skill

What do you think will appeal to the self-absorbed

We all start out self-absorbed. Growth is a process of moving the focus from internal to external things. That is part of the process of learning to live in the real world. Adolescence is an in-between stage. Now being stoned fits with the Establishment philosophy of looking inward for "answers". It is also dangerouse to the 16-21 because it distracts from learning one's way around the external world and the "high" rewards and therefore reinforces that inward-looking self-absorbedness. What the stoner cheats herself out of is best stated in the quote "There are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreampt of in all your philosophies. Horatio"

The function of philosophy is to orient the mentality to the real world and train it to deal with and enjoy that world

The human intellect is a wonderful and powerful tool, It can cleave through the heart of a star like a broad-axe and then disect a subnuclear particle better than the finest obsidian scalpel. However, those functions are not automatic. That intellect has to be activated, pointed at and focused on the target, configured as the axe or scalpel based on the nature of the target and then manipulated to do the job. The "software" that controls those processes are what "mentality" is

This inward gazing is also derisively called "being consumed by [contemplating] your navel"

The only things that are "inside" are the powers, faculties and skills, and repository of already-learned things the evolutionary function of which are to deal with the real, external world

It is the proper use of these internal facilities that drug use, by focusing inward for pleasure or "answers" mitigates against

Thankfully in my state, medicinal cannabis is legal. Medicinal marijuana is not the same as the crushed up bag of stems and seeds some of us tried as kids.

There are thousands of strains, each with its own benificial and sometimes negative effects (Dry mouth and sleepiness), but all of them are safer than the aspirin you take for a headache. Aside from my own experiences (cannabis helps to calm my anxiety better than clonozepam, and to help with my chronic depression, without all of the nasty side effects of those medications) I have literally seen hundreds of people who are suffering from everything to insomnia to cerebral palsy, even cancer who are actually able to live functional lives that weren't as possible with just pharmaceuticals.

It's time for people to understand that people who smoke cannabis aren't just stoner losers. Some of them are doing it to be able to actually function in their daily lives without taking a bunch of medicine that quite frankly is usually less tested than cannabis. How many times have you seen medications pulled from shelves because they can cause death, stroke, heart attack, liver failure etc? As I said before, aspirin kills more people than almost every other drug. Nobody ever, period, amen, 0%, has ever died from a cannabis overdose. How many people that you know of died from drinking? What about things like getting their medications mixed up?

Cannabis is only illegal (and only in certain states) because it's hard to regulate, difficult to tax all transactions, and because it takes money away from big pharma. It's less harmful than alcohol and even cigarettes as the evidence suggests it helps fight cancer rather than cause it.

Not too long ago when I was a teenager, I did alot of drugs for the sole purpose of getting high. It felt really good at the time, but it seemed to lose its appeal once I got into my 20s. For some people the appeal doesn't go away and it's all about getting intoxicated. I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with that if done responsibily. It's all personal preference. Don't judge people who have that preference.

Yeah, there is the whole illegal and could loose you job thing for me too. Other than that I stick to what my doctor prescribes, which is oxycodone for me. I live in florida so that could one day mean marijuana, though I haven't yet, and probably won't since I can't stand smokers. No need for uppers or downers either,in the end they only screw with your life and make you think it was a great trip all the while you never left the house.

According to Dr. Dean Edell some years back. Medical "Marijuana" was intended to be taken via inhaler and the "high" effect would be minimal

I favor the legalization of all drugs. And before someone tries to use the usual dishonest tactic, for adults as with alcohol. Prohibition does not work, that was conceded with the repeal of the Volstedt Act

Rewind: Spring 1962

Place: De La Salle Academy: NOweport Rhode Island

Time Afternoon; U.S. History Class: Discussion; the 1930's shortly after repeal of Prohibition

The lecture turned to the beginning of the drug laws and how they were implemented and their purpose. In the case of pot, rather than ban it outright the feds sought to ban it by placing heavy taxes on it to make it unaffordable and woudl ban it later. I thought to myself "The ink isn't even dry on the repeal of Prohibition of alcohol which was conceded does not work so now they are doing it with drugs. What made them think if it didn't work with booze, it will work with pot? This will bite us someday" What is it when you do the same thing over again and hope for different results? Unless you think we are winning the drug war. If THIS is winning; where do I go to surrender

But to get back on track the subject of this thread was stoners

Mushrooms / DMT / LSD - Eliminate perception and see what otherwise cannot be seen, find out answers about our very existence and the metaphysical world that lies beyond, go on unfathomable adventures that are not possible in everyday life, warning: you might not like what you see!

I was given a vaporizer pen that I can use with concentrates. It works really well for my depression, anxiety, and ibs even.

Smokers are not all deadbeats. I work really hard at my job, which I can do thanks to medicinal cannabis. I'm extremely intelligent, have an exceptional memory, and am always engaged in intellectual discussions when I'm not being little.

Not only that, but you don't brag much, either

Repaid1, if you have any personal experience with those substances, please share. I would love to know how what I said was the "dumbest thing you have ever heard". Otherwise I'm going to stick with what I said. Because I actually have personal experience to back it up. Hallucinogenic drugs can most certainly take your mind on amazing and fantastic trips and adventures, even if you don't believe it.

Sorry, just defending myself from folks who think stoners are all unambitious deadbeats.

I am not saying doing drugs is ALL bad, there are those for medical reasons. I myself took medical pills that I then layer got addicted to, luckily I kanaged to stop, I take drugs seriously since it really harmed my dog when a few students blew the smoke on him. He had to lay in at the vet for four months getting all kinds of tubes and such on him, it hurt me seeing him like that. I hate drugs, any kind of it, illegal, legal, all of it. I just trying to find out why others do it, mostly by couriosity, some say it makes their lives easier, but why then, I honestly don't care if people do it, waste their money, hurt themselves, as long as it doesnt hurt me in any way, I'm okay with it.

An admission: When I was younger and did drugs I tried everything I could get my hands on (which was any and every drug then avallable). I've smoked the best weed the world could grow and done more than my share of pure LSD (not the usual crap normally found). The ONLY reason I am still alive is that I hated needles- I still do <_< That didn't always stop me though. I quit before DMT and "X" and the other 'club drugs' came onto the scene but I can imagine their described effect from the 'coctails' of stuff I did. Withou\t exactly knowing it at the time, my choice to use had a lot to do with me wanting to escape this world and all it's problems somehow, and when I was high that happened. And being high on something more often than not a large part of my life has been essentially wasted- out of touch with society and reality. But that wasn't all bad :)
