What Film Did You Watch Last?

Recommended Posts

Just seen:

"Hobo With A Shotgun"

An extremelly great film with ultra ultra violence, and very evil at times, extreme gore and guts plus some horrible parts to it.

The few disturbing/shocking parts for me was: A rape scene, children getting burnt alive in a schoolbus, and a peadophile santa outside a park playground(but he get's blown away luckily though).

My favourite part in the whole movie was "THE PLAGUE" (rip and grinder) I don't know what exactly they were. But seemed like either cyborgs or demons in armor-plated suits.

I hope they make another film just for the "THE PLAGUE" (rip and grinder).

Was somewhat over the top, any more extreme it wouldn't be legal, as it would be make it a snuff movie...

Was amazed when I saw the makings of the film after after how they made the deep wound effects for example.

Love Hobo with a Shotgun. Beautiful stylish film that is what I would call "perfect". It's not a movie for everyone but it is so clearly, down to every single little moment and detail, exactly the movie that the people involved wanted to make.

I think the last movie I watched was The Grey. I really loved it. It was not what I was expecting but fantastic all the same. I loved every second of it and cannot say enough good things about it.

Man...I had a completely different experience with 'The Grey' While I did enjoy parts of the film I felt you needed to suspend too much of reality to really appreciate it. You can't look at it as strictly a 'survivalist' type of film....more of a journey towards self-realisation and ultimate attonement for the protagonist.

The ending left quite a bit to be desired.......

As far as suspension of disbelief goes, it helps to think of it more as a fantasy film. The wolves I truly don't think where meant to be realistic. From their very first appearance they seem almost supernatural. It's kind of similar to Jaws. That shark is about as far from actual shark behavior as you can get but that's still a fantastic movie. I never have an issue with suspension of disbelief though. The farther from reality the better for me.

As far as the ending goes, well, not everyone likes that sort of thing. I felt it was a very tonally pitch perfect way for the movie to end. In general I felt that is what the movie did best. It managed it's tone and emotional impact very well. Being beautiful, nihilistic, depressing, or exciting exactly when it needed to be.

If you've seen the director's previous film, Smokin' Aces it does a lot of messing around with tonal and story expectations as well. It seems like a wacky cartoony violent action movie, and it is, but it also has moments of actual emotional impact and a few really dark depressing moments. He also did the A-Team which I really enjoyed, but that's much more straight forward.

That's just my take on it though. Not everyone will love every movie, nor should they. Not everything is for everyone, but I really look forward to seeing what this director does next.

Last Friday night while in my hotel room waiting to fall asleep, I saw "The book of Eli" I liked it actually, though I get the feeling that it would be better seen in a theater on the big screen, for some of the long shots to give you the true sense that this was essentially the end of the world.

The ending blew my mind though...yeah....something to think about....
