Why is SSI so stupid? They are cutting my benefits by quite a large amount because my mom is a $%#$&$% and didn't fill out the paperwork they needed from her.

Do you live with her? I know they look at HOUSEHOLD income to decide your total resources/income.

I think that's it. Never ignore what the Government sends you or things like this can happen Those folks are the worst @$$#0!*s there ever were- they seem to get their jollies doing things like this to people at every chance they can find to do it No compassion or understanding with them

Govt. did something similar with my college loans. Even though I didn't live with my parents and wasn't being supported by them their income was still used to determine the type and how much subsidized college loans I qualified for. They seem to think that just because people have family that family somehow feels obligated to help them out... which isn't always the case.

Yeah, when I did my FAFSA they didn't require information on parental financials if I declared that I was supporting myself.
