Lost all hope for the World

Recommended Posts

I feel much as you do Elfking. The thing is there must be people like us who can see what's going on clearly and who speak of it- or there will never be any hope of change.

My fight is personal, for because of idiots and corruption I have thrice been wrongfully convicted of things I positively did not do but could not prove my innocence of. 2 of those three times the physical exidence proved my point but lawyers, being in cahoots with the cops and courts, screwed me over by not using that irrefutable proof to defend me <_<

There is a line in a Movie called "Mrs. Doubtfire" and it goes a little something like this. "Honesty Often goes away from Age and Politics". Of course, I do still have faith in Humanity. There was a guy who had ran out of gas about 100 feet passed my drive way, mind you Walking up my driveway is NO walk in the park, it is all uphill. anyway. I was going to the gas station to put my last $20.00 I had into the gas tank when he waived me down. I gave him a lift to the gas station and he had seen that my "Low fuel" light was on. He said "How about I top your gas tank off". me?

I often get the same feeling of "I don't want to live on this planet any more". Too many idiots and greedy people out there. Luckily DD hasn't been inundated by them (though some have tried and still do from time to time).

I have been long term depressed and I imagine I will stay that way since the things that cause my depression aren't going to change.

But I feel so alienated with the world and society as a whole.

Everybody is screwing over everyone else in whatever ways they can. You have the rich and privileged getting more and more so, whilst the standard of living for regular people is decreasing steadily as prices and bills go up faster than wages could ever hope to keep up.

With no one wanting to do anything about global warming, wars going on everywhere, corporations gaining an almost complete grip on governments, spying from corporations and governments that is getting worse, restrictions on the internet being forced through, no one in power acting on behalf of the people that elect them into the role, governments using the practically non-existent threat of terrorism to pass though laws which put huge restrictions on freedoms in the name of safety.

I'm just struggling to see what the point of carrying on in such an uncaring and hateful world? There is no significant amount of people who are fighting to do anything about it, and I doubt anything will get done.

I'm ashamed of what humanity has come to and quite frankly I want nothing to do with any of it.

For those saying revolution will come, it won't, there is too much control being exerted from above, and not enough will to resist from the bottom.

Get off the internet and out into your neighborhood.

If you look, you will find many people right around your area that do care and are putting that into action.

There are organizations and individuals everywhere doing good work in many fields that would contribute to everyone's well being.

I'm sure that one or more of those would greatly appreciate your help.

Spend less time worrying about the end goal and more time on the journey to get there.

Small acts of local good are absolutely nothing to the juggernaut of bad which is above us... Sure there are people trying to stop small things but its useless to resist since the powers that be always get their way in the end.

I look for neither good nor bad- I want to see things clearly, just as they really are. And what I see is not very rosy a picture of the future with the distant future being a terrible world to be in :crybaby: Nonetheless, humanity will survive because of the good people who help each other get by  In the end, the world will be a far different place than we have now, but there will be no rich or poor, nobody being discriminated against, and nobody being attacked because of who or where they were born as. It will be both a simpler and a more complex world but the complexities will be under control, unlike today, so that people can see the value of the simple things such as caring, peace, and happiness B) Getting to that point is going to be the worst that humanity has ever suffered but there's no other way to get there.

Pfff...

If you bother to look for the good things, you'll start seeing them everywhere.

Of course you could also turn a blind eye to the problems around you and simply deny they are even problems at all. After all, ignorance is bliss.

Look at the net neutrality bill in America, or the various protection and copyright laws they've tried to pass (SOPA, CISPA, CISA) everytime it falls through they slightly reword it and start again, and they are content to do this over and over until they get what they want, because they know one will eventually slip through.

The usual Us vs. Them argument.

Who is They? Aliens, Overlords, Dictators.

Everything is local. Even massive global problems start as a local issue, but people just don't see the long term consequences of the actions they are undertaking. On some issues the problems are known but are ignored.

Here's an example: If one person cuts down a tree, he has a bit of wood. If everyone cuts down a tree, the forest is gone, along with everything that used to depend on that forest for survival.

Those bills you complained about are a creation of your own government. All the people in that government are locally elected.

Obviously, the citizens want the government to operate that way. The people did elect those representatives, and whenever a alternative is on the ballot, the candidate is never successful at getting elected. By the will of the people.

Unfortunately most people who complain about the status quo don't vote. The ugly truth is that more people don't vote than the number of people who elected the winner.

If the complainers got off the couch and voted for an alternative candidate, the election results would be much different.

Not voting allows the special interest groups (parties) to control the results since they work very hard making sure all their supporters get to the vote.

Local actions are way more important than global issues. There is a personal connection that makes life better right where you live.

Local support can and does prevent many tragedies.

And yes they are all locally elected, but guess what, for the most part one individual vote means fuck all, not to mention it doesn't matter who gets elected, they are all slaves to the wants and needs of those above them, who in turn are slaves to the wants and needs of those who fund them

That is totally incorrect. One vote can make a big difference. A local poll station is actually a fairly small number of people and when a large number of people on the list don't vote, the few people who do have a large impact on the results.

My wife has worked many elections, and the winner of the local poll typically gets around 20 votes, out of a list that has around 200 names.

Well... The place I grew up in had a Conservative MP for the last 50 years, never with a majority of less than 10,000... So I don't think your example is representative of most places.

Ok 10,000 out of how many total people eligible to vote?

Those are aggregate results from many locals polls to make up a riding.

My example is one of a local poll, and it is typical.

Look up the results of just your neighborhood, you will be surprised how few votes would change the result.

The parties know this info and work very hard using it to influence the results.

That's why they will drive you to the polling station if you say you will vote for their candidate.

Just a couple more votes and they will win.
