Zak
I got a ticket the other day on my bike... got caught enjoying the right (wrong?) side of my speedometer on the interstate. Link to comment
LitlAndy1
Not really interested, but before you sell it, you do know how to wipe the drive completely so no data can be recovered from it? Formating a drive won't do it...if you have emails, messaging etc accounts...you need to completely wipe the drive (ie over write the entire drive with 1 n 0's) msg me if you don't know how or are concerned. in linux it's something like sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd0 What did / do you ride? I ride a Katana 750 (2006) Ta LitlAndy Link to comment
Zander
... rather than pissing about trying to find the right linux commands to do this securely, you could just do what everyone else does and use DBAN. Link to comment
LitlAndy1
I agree random is better...but yeah for just selling a drive, and home data recovery vs professional, I was just thinking of preventing identity theft and or accidental transfer for viruses. Link to comment
Gennie
The only problem guys is that someone who buys a computer like this is expecting an operating system on it. Link to comment
AwakenEvil
you could factory restore it, and still recover data from it. Link to comment
Zander
You do both. In order: you wipe the drive (with something like DBAN) and then use the DVD / repair disk that came with the laptop (or you made as part of the "first use" set-up process when you bought it) to reflash the OS. Guest Baby Rina
Personally, unless someone lists an OS as part of the sale I assume I'm buying parts as-is. Usually that implies it can be a serviceable computer with minimal work (Installing an OS of my choice) but its still considered parts until its all been checked out... actually even when it lists an OS its still considered 'parts' until it checks out. nanamartinez
Is this 'top still for sale? Need one desperately! if not, does anyone know where I can get a cheap one or a desktop PC? Link to comment
Repaid1
I buy used laptops almost every week off of Craigslist for friends. Never had a problem with any of them. Link to comment

Fulldiaper
Try and find a MAR (Microsoft Authorized Refubisher) they take recycled PC's and laptops, wipe and install an OS and sometimes MS Office. They're legal and checked over by techs. Hope this helps? Link to comment
willnotwill
Is the laptop still for sale? Link to comment
Fulldiaper
All hard drives come with a program called "Secure Erase" to meet DOD and DOJ requirements for scrubbing the drives for sale or disposal. Link to comment
