Tena - Asda

Recommended Posts

Last week on a shopping trip to a large Asda/Wal Mart I noticed that the pharmacy has started to sell Tena slip super in S/M/L... not sure if I could be brave enough to buy in such a large super market though.

I have seen these in ASDA in York. I too worry about buying in such a public place, but these stores are open 24hrs and you can go when it's quiet and use the self service checkout tills. If you get it right, nobody will notice

Can you use those when buying from the pharmacy? I've never been to one in ASDA (Nor is that where I shop) so I can't really recall.

Yes, you can, because these products are actually on the shelf in an aisle by the chemist. The one in York is literally 20 m from the self service till, which is very near the exit to the store. Shouldn't be a problem.

The Asda in Southampton city centre had a whole wall of Tena next to the pharmacy for the last year. I bought some Tena Comfort Maxi and a pack of Tena Slip Super there; worked both on the self-service and on the normal tills. I did ask at the pharmacy counter about the Slip Maxis, but the attendant seemed a bit clueless, so I assume that they're just placed next to the pharmacy, but belong to the general store stock.

Strangely enough two other 24h Asda/ Walmart Supercentres (Haydon Wick, Swindon and Leigh Park, Portsmouth) didn't stock any.

My local Asda (Notts/Derbys) border also stocks a good range of tena products from what I could see at a glance. Problem is they are at the bottom of the store away from the self service checkouts! But will definitely check them out in the near future.

No 'Maxi' Tena Slip in Southampton Central, Chandlers Ford or Leigh Park. Their range of Tena Slip seems to stop at 'Super'.

They have Tena Comfort pads in 'Maxi' in Southampton Central and Leigh Park, though.

Last time I looked in Chandlers Ford, they didn't have anything but Tena Pants discreet there, but they were changing (haha) the store layout just then...

Best get my ass down to my two local Asda's to check this out, if they are selling them, they are bound to be cheaper than everywhere else.

Although out here in the sticks, almost every Chemist stocks Tena supers and maxi, but it is a bit of a gods waitingroom at time round here. My local Chemist has them piled high in the front window at the moment, but it's a little too close to home for me, as my local pub is accross the road.

I've spotted various types of Tena products on my local Tesco delivery site (well I guess you get differnt products appearing on their website, depending on what exactly the local store the online deliverys are taken from). Mainly just the pads and suchlike for women, I think, but there were a few others, though I'm not entirely certain what the differnce is between the differnt 'types', of Tena products at the moment... I'll try remember have a look on the web-site, and see if it lists any likely candidates for somethign that might actually be useful.. I could order some in with my ordinary grocery delivery, I don't think that'd bother me anywhere near so much as buying them in-store...

yep my local ASDA in Huyton, Liverpool has started stocking them and yes I have bought some in the middle of the day as I was away from my usual stockist and needed some just to get me back home. Although I really like the Lille classic fit the Tena are really good but a bit pricey for me. I wear 24/7 so I don't think the Tena are in my price range for everyday use.

@ cheapthrills: Tesco never forgets...

I know a lot about retail analytics and how customer tracking systems work .... the above is an understatement.

There is some really cool stuff going on in this field at the moment, the following stuff is pretty far along already (arguably complete):

  • Linking of data to individuals even over cash transactions and unknown credit cards.

  • Prediction of major life changes (i.e. we can get really high accuracy knowledge within 3 shop visits if you're about get laid off and know it, if you've just gotten laid off but didn't expect it, if you've gotten pregnant (even before the lady knows herself), if you're about to move where you live, if you have a heart attack, if you've just had major dental work done, if a family member has died, etc. etc.)

The interesting stuff going on now (research, but looks promising):

  • Using IR sensors in the ceiling of stores to track how individuals walk (ideally so we can identify individuals within 30 seconds of you coming into any of our stores, regardless of where in the country). Works on height, posture, walking gait etc. and is cheaper and more accurate than trying to do facial recognition with todays technology

  • Using ANPR systems in car-parks to enhance accuracy and identifying when people have just bought a new car (we can do a lookup what that car model is etc.)

  • Prediction of how likely you are to see a specific new film release, how soon after it is released you will watch it and how it will affect your personal buying habits for 48 hours after.

  • Video analysis from instore security cameras tracking how babies/toddlers respond to in-store displays (where we position items, what colours are used etc.) and how this affects the parent's likelihood of purchasing specific products.

There is a bunch more really good stuff going on in other companies and research labs, but I don't have visibility of all of it. As you can imagine most companies keep this work close to their chest as its a big commercial advantage when these things pay-off.

Bootnote: I don't work for Tesco, but I'd be surprised if they're not ahead of this already, given how much they can spend on this stuff.

The Tena Slips are available at ASDA in Washington, Tyne and Wear as I work near there and am often in at lunchtime. Only 1 size though: Large. Plus I don't think anybody ever buys them unless they restock immediately, perhaps I should check the dust on them!!

@ Zander: The Metro group in Germany tried a thing a few years ago: they rolled out active pricetags on the shelves (LCD based). What they didn't tell the cusomers was that these also had RFID receivers built in, and could track your movement and the linger time in front of every article by your store card (of which they also not told that it had a RFID chip hidden). Caused a rather big Hooha when it came out; they had to issue new cards without chip.

I can well believe that Tesco knows more about anyone than the authorities do.

But back to the nappies...

Bridge & Co, 226 Burgess Rd. in Swaythling, Southampton stock Molicare Super Plus for £19.02 incl. VAT

I know it's not ASDA, but only 10 minutes away from ASDA in Chandler's Ford.

I know the large ASDA in Southampton by west quay sell Tena Slip Super in Medium because I have bought a pack from there, while I was at uni. The large ASDAs in Castlepoint and the Travel depo, both in Bournemouth don't have them at all, but with Dorset Nursing being so close, not really a problem.
