Bladder pain

Like others I have been following the advice on how to relax my bladder whenever I get the urge to pee, the idea of course being that eventually I would be going without any effort on my part. I wear a diaper most of the time and always at night and things have gone on quite nicely for months. However just lately I have noticed that my urge to pee has got much more intense and if I don't happen to be wearing a diaper I need to get to the bathroom as soon as poss. Stangely though I never seem to pass much and the flow is much slower than it used to be (that could be old age!!). I am wondering is this typical of the later stages of becoming incontinent? Anyone else had a similar experience?

If nothing has changed about your diet (liquid or solid) and if you've been reasonably well hydrated then a doctor visit might be wise. PSA prostate tests are notoriously inaccurate The usual is a false positive but enough false negatives happen to not overlook that possibility. Getting yourself checked out can't hurt. Also real cranberry juice does good with some bladder problems and that's something you can try right away. Also make sure you're getting enough water and not over-doing caffeine or sodas- they can be rough on the urinary system.

You say you have also been following the advice to relax your bladder (sphincter actually) when every you get the urge to pee. How long have you been doing this? Your body may just be adapting in response to your always going when ever you have needed to go. If this is what you've been wanting then I would suggest you just wear diapers 24/7 and continue your reverse potty training. Eventually you will start peeing without even getting the urge or feel it. If not, then it is time to go see your doctor.

I think most peoples bladders shrink though I don't know about thickening. All I know is I tend to pee a little and often all the time since my decision to wear nappies (well tena pads) all the time and give up trying to stay dry during the day which was becoming harder all the time.

what type (material) of catheter do they have in you?

I have a standard length latex 14CH hydrogel coated foley catheter inserted. I've had larger ones inserted in the past but this one works OK. No discomfort when it was inserted. It's a closed system in that it is connected to a leg bag which I am told not to remove until I change the bag (about one a week). I shower with everything connected but do change the leg bag straps after showering because they are not easy to dry.

I've been catheterized many times and just let it drain into my diaper. The longest stint was 7 months, and I did not get a single UTI the entire time. Unless you're already prone to getting infections there is no reason why you have to have the catheter connected to a bag ALL of the time. If anything you can remove the bag to take a shower, then reconnect it afterwards.

Yes you can. Be careful your catheter is well lubed around the tip of you pp first though. A lot of rubbing right there will make you sore. You may also get a Retrograde ejaculation or may feel some added pressure in around your prostrate since your body won't be able to expell the semen as easily. This will dissipate and you will get a slow drainage, so stay diapered for a while afterwards.

I had a co-worker (He's since retired..) who had prostate cancer. Not what stage it was, but the docs implanted a "radioactive seed" the size of a grain of rice, into his prostate. It more or less killed the cancer cells, and he's doing fine now. There's a lot of treatment options now days, depending on what you have...
