I would talk to the instructor and make sure that you are really unable to do the work properly before dropping the class.

You didn't say how many other classes you might be taking at the time, or what type of class is stressing you out.

It may not be your fault. !!

You're a grad student, so you're working on your masters. How many hours are you taking? Are you working at the same time?

Do speak with the educator and if there is one, also a school counselor. You need expert guidance here if you are to find happiness at the conclusion of things and they have seen more of this than you have ;) If the course is an absolute to get what you want and it has to be done now, you have to knuckle down and handle it or delay your education until you can handle it. Then again it may be a sign that you're not on the right path. In that case the soner you know this the sooner you can correct it.

Hi Wakko, A degree in French? By this point in your life you must have some ideas about your career. Where does this schooling fit in to the picture? Have you had any interesting internships yet? I'm wondering about the job market for you and the value of a post grad degree in something so specialized.

Thanks David. That comment spoke to my situation really well. I just dropped the class and I'm already feeling a bit better off.

Yeah there was a little voice in my head that said "go talk to him!" But that was a scary idea to me.
