Chatroom Rules

Is it possible for us to agree on some standard chatroom decorum and rules and have it written down for those who are new to the community here?

Just the standard rules, no PMing people without permission, no flame wars, for starters.

And could we have a couple chatroom moderators nominated once the rules are in agreement and posted?

rules are good but ive talked about having a moderator to Dailydi and he says there is no need for one so ya we can make rules but noobs still wont reed them.

Exactly.

Rules without enforcement and policing mean little to nothing.

Like, who pays attention to rules anymore?? sheesh.

Why can't people just apply some frickin' common sense??? Do unto oters as you would have them do unto you (IE treat others how you like to be treated) some common courtesy, respect humor and love....

It's not that hard people!!!!!!

Really....

It's Not!

Square Duck, that's why we love ya! You're right, but sadly what you see and who you are isn't present in many people and there's no way to force it to happen in the cyberworld. I'd change that if I could but all I can change is me and hope that others will see why. It seems that the number of good people is finite while the overall population grows, tipping the scales evermore downward with no end in sight. There is no joy in Mudville today, and none called for in the current forecast.

Hey guys ASL? Are you wet!? Are you wearing? Will you be my Mommy!? Will you change me?!

Rules wouldn't help without people to inforce them.... What we need is an ignore button. :D

You can ignore without a button. What might be more democratic is some kind of system where if more people in chat want someone gone than want them there, the new user would be limited or blocked access. Of course if you, the reader of this post, got blocked could you handle that? It's all pie in the sky anyway because if IP Boards doesn't have it neither do we. Rules do no good without a lot of things: enforcement, unbiased consistent application, clarity, comprehensiveness, and popular support of the rules and people enforcing them. Lack any and what you've got doesn't matter.

I do go to chat off and on .Sometimes im not on for 30 seconds and i get (usually a guy because of my name !) trying to PM me i tell them im a straight guy and they usually leave me alone or i tell them im old!!!!!! lol and grey hee hee .Nobody want an old grey guy especially if they think your a girl lol

I get that too, sometimes I'll lead the hng's on, make em think they landed a wet and horny chick, then when they get down to their business, I spray em hehe.

other times, and I do it on DC most days, I ask em if I know em, and if they say no, I launch into an expletive-laden tirade about how they're supposed to ask permission and then I put it in main that they're a no-asker. It's right in the rules there so if their penis is so engorged they can't read the rules cause their optic nerve isn't getting blood, not my problem.

The ignore button is always a great idea...and it's odd that few places have them

A modification of this could be a sensor in the room so that is a certain user in chat is getting ignored, aftersay 5-6 people hit 'ignore' that user is automatically booted from the room.

this too can be abused, like anything else :P but it saves a mod from being there and adds an extra tool for chatters to use to be able to chat and play safely with out the abuse and hassle of HNG's or bullies or other half-wits who think it's funny to screw with people and try and ruin their enjoyment of the room.

Just my thoughts, but again, mostly it's just common courtesy to be able to get along in a chat room. don't do anything in there that you wouldn't do in a real life encounter...but again....some people don't think (nor can they it seems) and just go do what they think they want regardless of situation or outcome.

Its just the 'net' after all :P

Common sense, is not all that common!

"asl? asl? PM? PM? PM? PM? PM? PM? PM? PM?"

*PM's anyway.*

If I straight up get a no-ask PM without even the spamming of "PM?", if it's friendly or isn't a case of just "hi" or "asl" or "r u a gurl?" I'll chat. I don't mind if I'm IM'd politely and/or for a REASON without asking (Such as answering a question I asked a long while back when the chat's on a totally different topic now, or to clarify something as I have, in fact, PM'd without asking in those cases though it's wrong. That was when I was new...er.)

I guess that falls under (Not-so-)common sense.

While most people don't mind a friendly question via PM, just as in RL the thing to do is to listen to the response- and if they say "No" then believe them! Only idiots think they are accomplishing anything by being a persistent hemorrhoid with someone else :o

You see more of this in Chat because those idiots want to know they are bugging you in real-time :( They get their jollies from the instant responses moreso than they do by posting, and that is one of the main reasons I rarely do chat- there are fewer idiots out here than in there and I try to avoid idiots :P There are also a lot of good people in Chat too- some of our best- but unless DD were to make a huge number of people Mods it's unlikely that the problems there will end. Just do the best you can- report rules violations, ignore idiots, and set an example of how to be with your own actions  And if it gets to be too much, click out for awhile; The Chatroom will still be there when you feel better!

Can we actually add 'Please don't be creepy' to the general rules? I know it's common sense but people who are being creepy won't get the boot just because they aren't sending unsolicited PMs even if people are freaking out.

Posted

Then who decides what is 'creepy'? Not everyone will be happy with anyone else's decision about that (especially mine with my low tolerance for such :o ). Really, it's far better for each to decide for themselves, then ignoring the 'creep' and any responses made to them when your personal limit is exceeded ;) Chat is the real world in real time where you find people of all kinds coming and going, not knowing who any but your friends are before they show their colors up close and personal. Act in the same way you would in the real world and don't let someone else lessen your happiness in life. If they have a problem let them keep it and deal with it all by themselves. If they break rules report them and we'll deal with them for you. Most of our user-bans which are not underage are because of Chat violations so we're doing our job- we just can't be here all the time for you.

Those creepy people are the idiots that don't pay attention to rules, so adding it as a rule is rather useless.

Hm, yeah, you got a point. Some people are more thick-skinned than others. I mean I can take insults fairly well at times but I can be a bit sensitive to 'creepiness' (forgive me for saying that. My skull is fried lately). I guess it's just a case of 'deal with it'.

...But...uh...if that's the case, why the 'no swearing' rule? Want me to dump that Stephen Fry quote? :P

Posted

Yea, what's with the 'no swearing' rule? We're all adults here, yes?

LMFAO

I guess they mean no swearing at people.

Then again I could be wrong and it could be like what the police can warn and even arrest people for in public if it causes:

alarm,harassment or distress.

And also say on PSN(playstation network) swearing on the playstation home channel gets you a 1 day ban or anything up to a lifetime console ban, but then there's kids on that part of it, so that would explain it.

But then you go on say an 18 rated online game like MW3 and then people will be swearing left right and centre, even at you.
