Question, Issue- Please Help.

Recommended Posts

I have recently gotten interested in the DL lifestyle once again. Due some medication side effects, I have also had a bit of what gain. Normally I wear a 32" pants, but i do have the dreaded "gut" that hangs over a bit. My other curve ball is that I have cerebral palsy, which limits me to the use of one hand for diapering. My question is this.

Since my wait gain, I have had constant leaks. It is my understanding that the diaper is to be taped, just below the bellybutton. When I do this, the diaper inevitably falls beleow the gut the at some point having much extra space. If I go above the belly button, it feels awkward. If I fasten the the dipe around right below the gut, letting it "hanf over, its seems there is not enough area for everything to soak in before leaks start. (Or I just REALLY suck at this). It seem tight, but now to tight. I can still slip a couple of fingers, but any tighter and the tabs always pop off.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Blake

four things...

1. there are special bariatric diapers for rather overweight diapers... having longer side-panels and a bit of a different shape... never tried those, don't have a need.. so don't ask me how well they work - but at least they exist.

2. wear a diaper-cover some sort of plastic pant .... that helps to keep the diaper in shape and prevent leaks.

3. Try different brands... for me usually the Size M fits best... however with some diapers I can use large and it fits me more comfortable and "safe" yet with others the M is almost too large again... they're cut differently so you might need to experiment.

4. Weight gain due to medical side effects.... well talk to your doc - maybe see a different doc. maybe if possible increase some sort of work out to counter-act.

I for one would never just "take it"... often there are different meds don't having the same sort of side-effect... sometimes changing your normal diet can help too... sometimes it's "just more sport"... or whatever... but if possible (of course I don't know your medical condition...) try to get rid of the "gained weight" again... not because of diapers, but because your body and general health will say "thank you" in the long run.

Thanks for the help.

I'll check those out.

As for the weight gain, I am currently trying to loose weight, with difficulty. It odd with the gut, I'm not obese or anything, my problem is the slippage, not sure what the best alternative is, to go under, or on the gut.. I guess having it (it not huge I swear) would anyone suggest getting a large and going on it, or a medium and under.

I am also using the plastic pan ts. They do help. but they seem to only help with containment, when the diaper leaks, at least it doesn't spread.

Thanks again.

Discuss this also with a specialist (doc)... but from your description I guess it might strongly help to train the lower adbomen musculatur... strengthen these should help you "holding it back"... if you get what I mean.

also there are supportive bandages which might help a little in the beginning...

Blake, also from your post it is not strictly visible whether you need the diapers for an actual incontinence problem or just for your pleasure...

if it's incontinence related you might really want to consider discussing the diaper issue with the doctor...

... larger diapers and the bariatric diapers do cost more than medium sized ones... so in the long-run if your insurance company does cover this a "prescription" might help.

other than that... try cloth diapers (good quality only)... as they are easier to fit to "difficult shapes" and the soaker is all around your lowe region positioning isn't as problematic.

I've been overweight for many many years! I currently wear size 44 waist pants and large size disposable diapers. I always tape the diaper on under my gut and pull the back up as high as I can. I may have to tape one side, then the other and go back and retape the top tapes to get a tighter fit around the waist. Sometimes I have to retape the bottom tapes too so they are tight around my legs. I wear Attends 6 tape diapers a lot but also other brands too. I don't have problems with leaks but it just takes some time and practice to learn just how your diaper should be taped. I will say if you don't tape it below your gut, it will slip down anyway and then will be really loose!

Thank You! Just what I was looking for. high in the back, low in the front, re-tape, and the brand. Perfect post. Thanks for your help. I'll go agead and try some attends again. In your esperience what has been the best for leaks?

Don't flood a huge amount all at once in any disposable diaper! That will not give the diaper time enought to absorbe it all. Try and pee slowly if you can. Also be mindful of how wet your diaper is and when it's time for a change. Leaks can come from several things, one being a huge fast flood in your diaper but also an over wet diaper may be at it's capacity and not be able to take another wetting. Third thing to keep in mind with disposables that have gel filling is they "lock away" wetness in the area where you wet. I've had diapers that were soaked and leaking in the crotch when the seat of the diaper was still relativly dry. Disposables with gel will not wick the wetness throughout the diaper like cloth diapers will. When sleeping in diapers if you sleep on your side there will be more tendency to leak. All that said, you can go to a "Babies-R-Us" store if you have one close enough and get a package of "DIAPER DOUBLERS" which are gel filled pads made for inserting inside a diaper to increase absorbency. Last ones I got were $2.99 for a package of 30. They do work well. If you're still worried about leaks, then a pair of plastic pants over a disposable diaper will help.

I have a bit of a gut, I am size 36 waist and I tape just below my belly ledge. I have also found that I have fewer leaks with higher quality diapers. I used to flood but have been wearing for long enough now that I go more frequently in smaller ammounts. The higher quality diapers are worth the cost because I will wear one maybe two abena's or bambino's during the day where I would have gone through 3 or 4 attends or the like.

Great info everyone, thanks for the help. I'll defiantly check out the doublers , and will continue working on the methods. I think I finally have a starting point, that I go in the right direction. Thanks again.

I haven't seen good diaper doublers at retail for some time...but a Tena Ladie's pee pad helps the front of all of my diapers do its job with much less leaking...get the ultimate absorbtion one...or one step down....
