Unexpected Family Member

Evelyn grinned back at Julianna. "You wanna play?" she asked and, without waiting for a reply, ran off to the playroom and returned with a bin of My Little Pony figurines.

Clare sighed and trudged to her classroom. She hated her sister being mad at her, especially since she couldn't control when she had to go to the bathroom. It wasn't like she made them late on purpose!

"Um okay." Julianna said. She carefully picked up one of the ponies and looked at the toddler. "How do you play?" She asked, unsure since she'd never had many toys like this back home.

Evelyn just shrugged and made her pony gallop the length of the coffee table, neighing loudly. "Like dis."

Doug came home and found Anna. "She doing okay?"

Julianna watched Evelyn and started mimicking the girl, smilinga little

"I know. We've been lucky, 5 kids and nothing too major to deal with. This ought to make things...interesting." Doug frowned. "I get the feeling she's going to require a lot of our time and attention. I just hope our kids are okay with that."

[Shy-Diapers]

"I hope so. But who knows what we can do for the girl. I had no idea Brian and his wife had a kid, let alone that she must've drank when she was pregnant. How did we not know this?" Anna sighed, shaking her head.

"Well, there's the fact that Brian hasn't spoken to anyone in the family for close to ten years. How were we supposed to know? What I want to know is why did he pick us to take care of her?"

[Shy-Diapers]

"Who knows. Maybe the fact that unless he moved, we're the closest distance wise?" Anna looked over at Julianna. "I'm glad I never drank when I was pregnant. I don't know how we're going to take care of her."

[justagirl4fun]

"We'll figure it out. I mean really, at this point what's one more? Since she is, apparently, legally ours she'll be covered by my insurance and hopefully that will pay for whatever she needs. And if it doesn't? We'll cut things out wherever we can and deal with it. We'll make it work. We always do. I just hope the kids don't give us too much trouble about it."

"I hope so. It's already hard enough giving them one on one attention, but now..." Anna said, trailing off.

[justagirl4fun]

"So, I guess I better talk to my parents, get the funeral planned and all that..." Doug mused, oblivious to Emma's squirming.

[Shy-Diapers]

"Yeah. I can't believe your brother is gone." Anna said shaking her head. "Well we'll just do the best we can and hopefully that's enough."

[justagirl4fun]

"I guess. You want me to do anything before I go over to my parents' to figure everything out?"

(are we doing the funeral and all that, or you wanna just gloss it over?)

(I was figuring we'd just gloss over it. I didn't have plans for one.)

"No, I think we're okay." Anna said before Emma came up, tugging on Doug's pant leg, staring up at him with wet pants.

(okay, let's just ignore it all. I didn't really want to deal with it anyways.)

"Oh, Emma! Why didn't you go pee pee on the potty?" Doug asked as he took her hand and walked her to the bathroom. "Big girls don't go pee pee in their panties."

Emma shrugged a little. "I was playin ponies daddy! I was distacted!"

"I don't care what you're doing. When you have to go pee pee, you do it in the potty. Not your pants." Doug pulled the wet clothes off and sat Emma on the toilet. "Stay there. I'm going to get you clean clothes."

Emma swung her feet and sat on the toilet like she was told. The three year old typically made it to the bathroom, but like most kids her age, she still had the occasional accident.

Doug went upstairs for clean clothes, then returned and wiped Emma down before getting her re-dressed. "Go play. And don't forget to use the potty next times," he said before grabbing cleaning supplies to take care of the carpet.

Emma let Doug change her pants and then ran off to go play again. She gladly went back to playing ponies for a while. "Daddy? Can we go owside?" She asked, getting a little bored of the ponies and wanting to play on the swings and store bought tree house as well as the trampoline.

"It's pretty cold out," Doug warned, though they were lucky that, as of yet, there was no snow on the ground. "If you put on your coat, boots, hat, and mittens without giving me any trouble we can go outside."

"Yay!" Emma squealed, running to get her winter gear. She put her coat and mittens on and sat down to put her boots on.

Evelyn quickly joined her twin in getting ready, though Doug stopped her and sent her to the bathroom first to hopefully avoid any accidents. "Julianna, you want to come too? We have a coat and boots that should fit you," Doug offered. They were Leanna's old ones that Anna had pulled out for Clare, but they were still too big. He knew they'd probably be a smidge too big for Julianna too, but it was better than nothing.

"Okay." Julianna said getting up. She put the coat she was given on, but had some struggle with the zipper.

"Emma, you wait until we're all ready," Doug ordered as he helped Julianna with the zipper and found her a hat and gloves. "Okay hon, I'm sure we won't be out too long," he said to Anna, knowing someone was bound to start whining about the cold before long. He opened the door and let the kids out.
