Lost in the land of the free

[Ishigreensa]

Hm....

[robehouse]

"Maybe a little." Kim admitted when the doctor asked about around her bladder.

She looked at the machine and nodded.

[Ishigreensa]

The doctor started to look at her bladder, and she took note that it seemed half full.

"Don't you feel like you have to pee at all?" she asked the child.

[robehouse]

Kim's eyes got wide as she listened to the doctor talk.

"How are you going to do that?" Kim wondered as the doctor said they were going to drain her bladder.

[Ishigreensa]

"Honey, it's easier if you don't think about it, okay?

[robehouse]

Kim bit her lip but nodded as the nurse talked to her. She was still nervous.

[Ishigreensa]

After another three or four hours, the doctors had looked at her in everyway they could.

Then, the social worker started to talk to Kim.

"How did you get to the United States?" she first asked her.

[robehouse]

Kim obeyed the doctors, doing whatever they asked her to do. She was glad when it was all over and got dressed again. She looked at the social worker.

"Um, well some men talked to my mother and father, then I was forced to go with them on a ship. They were not very nice to me, either on the trip or afterward at the workhouse."

[Ishigreensa]

"Work house?

[robehouse]

"Fourteen. I think that's what you call it. They kept us busy working and would mistreat us." Kim replied.

Kim wondered what the lady was writing down about her and what was going to happen.

[Ishigreensa]

"How did this lady you met treat you when you went with her?

[robehouse]

"Do you mean Brenda? She was really nice. I like her. She cares a lot for me. When I had accidents she helped me get cleaned up." Kim said, biting her lip.

[Ishigreensa]

"Accidents?

[robehouse]

"Yes I was scared, but they wouldn't let us go to the bathroom when we needed to where I was at, so we often wet our pants."

Kim smiled a little.

"Yes, I would like that."

[Ishigreensa]

"Does Brenda make you pee your pants, honey?" she asked.

[robehouse]

Kim shook her head.

"No ma'am. She doesn't want me to pee my pants. She is really concerned that I do that." Kim replied.

[Ishigreensa]

The social worker smiled and nodded.

"You are very polite, honey.

[robehouse]

Kim nodded and stayed where she was when the social worker left. She smiled at Brenda when she came in the room.

[Ishigreensa]

"There are no right or wrong answers, honey," Brenda told her.

[robehouse]

"Yes, I only told them the truth. I just hope that doesn't backfire."

Kim smiled at Brenda and hugged her.

[Ishigreensa]

"I don't know the answer to that yet, honey, but it is the situation where you will be the happiest while also being safe and taken well care of ."

Eventually, the social worker and INS came in.

"Your parents sold you, right?" the INS officer asked her as though he had no heart at all.

[robehouse]

"Yes, I think that would the best situation for me too."

Kim jumped when the INS officer entered the room.

[Ishigreensa]

"Well, I think that's all we need for now.

[robehouse]

"Thank you very much." Kim said to the social worker.

Kim stood quietly waiting for Brenda to get everything together so they could go home.

"Could I use the toilet before we leave?"

[Ishigreensa]

"Of course, honey," Brenda said putting a hand on her shoulder.
