dlover49
Is it acceptable to post a letter from an old magazine if I credit it? Is over 20 years old and not too long. Link to comment
Bettypooh
If the letter does not give out any personal info which could be used to locate someone, and you credit it, then it should be OK. All our Site rules apply to the letter too Link to comment
Nat
Why not just delete that part from the story? Link to comment
BabyJune
Concerning copyright, material that is copyrighted is protected for the life of the author plus 25 years; then, unless copyright is renewed, it becomes public domain. A letter from a magazine is property of the publication AND the person who wrote it. If you are citing the letter for "educational purposes," you can quote it, giving credit to the writer and the publication that originally printed it. If you aren't selling the work, then anyone objecting to your use of it would have to prove "damages" if they were to sue you. To be safe, it is always wise to get written permission before reproducing any copyrighted work. You could also check the "terms of use" policies of the source you are using. Link to comment
