  4. Would anyone have any interest in an ABDL version of Care.com? 18+ obviously.
  5. Institutions that use contingent electric shock to force compliance? Any place that does that ought to be shut down immediately. Autism Speaks literally supports the last “treatment school” that still uses electric shock on its students. It’s barbaric and no matter what else the organization does, we should not turn a blind eye to them condoning what amounts to torture. And being profoundly disabled does not make their life have less value than anybody else’s. Many self-advocates use augmented and alternative communication (iPad apps and tablets specifically for pictures/text to speech) because they cannot speak verbally or with sign language. 6. I understand that Northshore’s Intent was to help. However, supporting Autism Speaks was unfortunately the wrong way to go about doing so. I do appreciate that NorthShore is listening to autistic advocates and researching how they can help best. I’m going to explain a hypothetical scenario to try to get more people to understand why I and other autistic people are so opposed to companies supporting Autism Speaks. The hypothetical scenario will be entirely in italics to emphasize that it is hypothetical. Imagine there is a charitable organization called “ABDL Speaks.” The leadership board of this charity is comprised entirely of Vanilla people. Only 2% of their funds actually go to ABDL people. Most of the funds raised by this organization go to Awareness campaigns with slogans like #CombatABDL and #FightAgeplay. They put out propaganda videos comparing ABDL to AIDS and cancer. They promote therapies designed to make ABDLs act like Vanillas. They ally with “educational centers” that use contingent electric shock to punish harmless ABDL behaviors the Vanillas deem unacceptable. Does this sound like a charity that helps ABDLs or hurts them? This is what Autism Speaks is like to autistic people. They make autism all about the families and how hard it is on them having autistic children. I am autistic and Autism Speaks does not speak for me.
  7. Northshore responded to another user's emails and has said they are no longer supporting Autism Speaks and will do further research into good charities. I and at least one other person have directed them to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.
  8. I'm very happy to hear Northshore will do more research! Thank you for also reaching out to them @Personalias
  9. For starters, very little of Autism Speaks' money actually goes to autistic people and their families. According to the most recent available financial reports, less than 2% of their funds went to services for autistic families. Autism Speaks board is also almost entirely non-autistic. They only have two autistic people serving on their board of 26 people. These board members unfortunately are probably more of a token item rather than having their ideas given serious weight. Just a couple of years ago, autistic author John Elder Robison resigned from the board because they didn't listen to a thing he said about their policy and organization. Source: http://jerobison.blogspot.com/2013/11/i-resign-my-roles-at-autism-speaks.html Many of Autism Speaks' "awareness campaigns" actually do more harm than good by stigmatizing autism. For example, their comprehensive genome project is titled MSSNG because according to them, something is missing in autistic people that makes them not whole. Past campaigns include Combat Autism (like it's a war against disabled people. Sad) I have attached a flyer that also explains the main issues autistic people have with Autism Speaks. Some great alternative autism charities are the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and the Autism Women's Network. AutismSpeaksFlyer_color_2018.pdf
  10. Northshore Care has recently supported Autism Speaks by participating in one of their walks in Chicago. I have voiced my disagreement to Northshore over this decision and informed them I will not buy from them as long as they support Autism Speaks. I also suggested they support the Autistic Self Advocacy Network instead. However, a representative of Northshore stated to me today that they stand by their decision to support Autism Speaks. I would like to ask the DD community to stand in solidarity with autistic people by boycotting Northshore until they stop supporting Autism Speaks and choose to support the Autistic Self Advocacy Network instead because there should be nothing about us without us. Thank you!

Coloring my boring diapers to make them not-boring
  12. Maybe not. One time I went about 22 hours without using a toilet during air travel and no diaper either. My stepdad who's a doctor said it was likely cause I consumed so much sodium (lots of fast food) that I just didn't produce that much urine. I think some of it was psychological too because I HATE airport/plane toilets and I made myself believe I didn't have to go. I also generally just don't go often. I tend to use a toilet every 10-12 hours. I go much more frequently in diapers.
